Forums - Gaming Discussion - Tyler B fears Nintendo Wii will dilute PS3, Xbox360 quality

Ok... I read what Tyler B had to say... I think he's the guy on the right.

I'm a mod, come to me if there's mod'n to do.

Chrizum is the best thing to happen to the internet, Period.

Serves me right for challenging his sales predictions!

Bet with dsisister44: Red Steel 2 will sell 1 million within it's first 365 days of sales.

haha berenstain bears!

EDIT:  But yeah...honestly, I would have taken this guy more seriously if he didn't say stuff like " If Nintendo has its way, young males will no longer be the dominant segment of the console audience" and be serious about it.

I mean, stifling a groan when a grandmother buys Cooking Mama?  Get over yourself, asshole.  Maybe the grandma wants to play because it is simple...there will still be games for teenage boys.

LEFT4DEAD411.COM
Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

I think he lost some credibility with the including Viva Pinata in games that the Xbox360 had and the Wii wouldn't I mean come on that game easily fits on the Wii.

Well Viva Pinata as it is can't be on the Wii...graphically reduced sure.

The vivid colors and smoothness of it all sure is a plus. But I agree, if only Rare would run away from Microsoft...Nintendo could take care of it.

Wow, I didn't even notice that quotation Ben. That's awful.

OMG! Nintendo doesn't want video games to be dominated by young men anymore. Evil!

ssj12 you are way off base up there. If Nintendo made a motion sensing camera then would grandma be able to play? How many people are actually willing to kick to make something happen on screen. People are already complaining about the Wii mote, I wouldn't want it if they took the motion sensing that far. I can't kick worth a shit. Especially at the rate that games require of you. You would be exhausted after 1 level. I think there are some improvements that can be made to the current layout of the Wii mote but they have hit the nail pretty damn square in the head this time.

you all are going a bit overboard with this, wii wont have that big a affect.

its hard to say if it will or wont. Taking it in the worse case, Microsoft and Sony follows Nintendo's example next gen and destroys true console gaming.

Just to clarify my last post. I'm not meaning that the large franchises will die or anything, their gameplay mechanics might change though.

Where are you getting this from? What the hell is "true console gaming"?

Nothing is going to die or go away. People said this about 3D gaming, that it would kill side scrolling platform games or other 2D games. But 2D games are still being created to fill in the void. It's not what it used to be, since 3D games are better for most games, but they are still there. If everyone started making compilations of mini games, then that segment will be saturated. Not everyone makes Honda Civics, I still see Lamborghinis being made.

and I also see Ferrari Enzos being made and those cost 1.5m each but we arent talking cars.

yes side-scrollers are being made, but unlike the flat 2D environments it was upgraded to include 3D features but the upgrade from 2D to 3D didnt remove gameplay elements we know and love but a total shift in the way we control things will if the Wii wins. I dont want to play a console RPG and to perform an attack with the next gen WiiMote using mega motion tech (yes making up what Nintendo would call it lol) would be spin the controller clockwise, thrust it forwards, slash it to the right, then press the A button while spinning around in a circle.. yes I made that all up but thats where things will be heading if the Wii wins. Im sorry but do you really want to look that retarded when playing a game? People already look stupid playing Wii Sports and Wii Play.. how retarded do you have to look till you realize that the gameplay isnt worth you time and energy. If you want a work out, play DDR. Its been out for years, play the Eye Play games with the PS2 eyetoy, their fun and can make you work out more then swinging around a piece of plastic.

It's that kind of mentality that is ruinning the industry. The e-thug who thinks he needs to look cool and play cool looking games or he's not on top. Of course people look ridiculous playing Wii sports, because they are having fun. You think they look dumb now you should see a room full of drunk people playing. I don't think I've ever laughed harder in my life. On the other hand, I sat down at Noon and had beat Gears of War by 7:30 that evening. All that was left was to go online and play multiplayer while 10 year olds called me "a gay n00b." That's not my idea of fun. My idea is a mentally challenging 50 hour Zelda experience. Or playing through Metroid Prime while trying to solve complex puzzles through an intriguing plot and deep environments. Or playing Wii sports with 3 friends while we laugh at each other and ourselves. Not that Final Fantasy would ever be that anyway. It's not like Nintendo dropped all semblance of regular control. It just annoys me how narrow minded the industry has become. People who have really been gaming since the Atari days know that what's happening isn't right for either the industry or gamers.

I largely agree. E-thug market for the lose.

lol your missing my point completely. If your going to use motion sensing do it correctly. Dont make it so that you need to hold something that contains a point that allows the machine to think your making a move. The WiiMote is to much of bad motion sensing/capture. I'll have to find it but theres some guys working on games that use full motion capture cameras for fighting games and FPSs and all those. Its really cool. In the fighting game demoed, you actually kick punch jump etc to make your character do those each things. It also has unrealistic charge attacks where you switch your arms in circles to charge energy to release a stronger attack. Motion sensing should be moving away from the controller and bring you into the games not making you hold an item.

The reason why I said the SixAxis is the right direction is because its showing what motion sensing can do while adding to the gameplay instead of making you work for the gameplay. The EyeToy and PSEye are stepping stones that should show that Sony wants to bring the world to the next stage of gameplay. I dont want to hold a controller for a shootiing game, I want to take a fake gun or make believe my hand is a fake gun and make a gun shoot like movement and shoot. I want to aim my body using free formed control instead of being limited to what a hunch of plastic can do. The EyeToy was to early to really bring in that idea. The PSEye which is an improved EyeToy will show what motion capture should be in gaming. Burnout 5 will take advantage of the motion capture abilities of the PSEye and Vision Cam. Games like Eye of Judgment shows a new world of interaction with games that are the next step. The demo of that cancelled game EyeDentity which you talked and guided two characters to do things thats another form of motion capture that we need where the game puts you into the game and you talk to the characters.

Nintendo is screwing up what Sony was trying to do with focusing on motion in a controller instead of the context of actually interacting game with motion. Truly you guys say Sony is bad for the industry but truly to do truly what Sony wanted you need power. Hence the PS3 being as strong as it is. If Sony wasn't trying to push the industry the way it should go the PS3 would have been weaker then the 360 but stronger then the Wii, and have a $300 price tag.

I smell a fan boy. Sorry, but it all felt like "SONY AWESOME".

I do beleive that the Wii Remote is a better dirrection then the EyeToy. The EyeToy limits you too a 2D plain. You don't have depth. The Wii Remote adds depth. Eyetoy is a step in the right dirrection, but how it was implemented was too gimikky. But, the SuxAxis isn't going to push the industry. It just pusheds it back. it uses the same technology as Kirby Tilt & Tumble. No real interaction. Oh, and Sony just added it so they could try and steal the hype of the Wii Remote. To bad it back fired.

But as you said in the first paragraph, there is no way to make something like that practiccal. How are you going to put it into people's house. Sure, it would be nice, but you're going to have to wait a while before you can actually play something like that. Items like the Eyetoy have yet to eenter the 3D realm and be practical. Till then you're stuck with the plastic wand.

Am i the only one who thinks NOT having a controller in your hand would make you look even stupider?

I mean, yeah it'd be neat to have a camera that could track your motions in real time. But could you move across the room and still play? Could you even have 4 players, or would you need 4 cameras? Maybe you just don't have friends over, and just play with yourself.

 1. if the camera has an auto zoom/focus yes.

2. easily, and no 1 camera

3. lol yea you dont have to have your friends over, connect to the through the PSN or Live and play against them.

3, You could do that on Wii too...

Other than that I must say that I feel a lot of hat from your side:

I agree... it will switch the focus of games from full experiences into shallow party/entertainment games. If the Wii wins.. we all lose great games in ever genre. RPGs next generation will be something like save the world by doing some stupid puzzle, not fighting, gaining experience, collecting new weapons. Nope solving puzzles or something. You might be able to walk a character around but wont have a battle system it will be a puzzle fighting system.... lame.

Well has it seems from DQ: Swords you will fight with you whole body and level up so nope sorry that isn't true. By they way what is the f***ing problem with puzzels at least I do enjoy that genre.

ssj12 said:
It will kill so many genres its unreal. MMOs would die, RPGs would die, Racing.. will become stupid, FPSs will suffer from horrid controls, Sports... will die. Small party games, puzzle games, and other genres similar will grow. Who wants 1000000 Wii Sports or Wii Play like games? I'll quit playing console games and go back to PC where there will never be BS gimmicks like the Wii. Motion Sensing can be great but to much is a bad thing. The SixAxis is the perfect example of a balance between to much and to little.

RPG: So far Wii has only one RPG coming and that is DQ: Swords, but the main question I have is why you shouldn't be able to make an RPG for Wii? The last one I played was Baten Kaitos and I could play that game with Wiimote plus nunchuk (sp?)

MMO: On a consol? And die because of Wii Play? Yes I think that Blizzard will give up the 8 million + paying members that plays WoW. Yes Blizzard will start making Wii Play clones from now.

Racing: You could controll it with the nunchuk, and so far I have heard many people actualy liked Excite Truck.

Sport: Will die? Ehh the name of the game for Wii is Wii Sport, and Yes I would rather play Wii boxing than a fight night on xbox360. Of course I would rather play Fight Night or a similar game on Wii than Wii boxing.

The next thing I must ask is why no fucking PS fan or xbox fan is bitching so much about, Buzz, Sims, Eye Toy games, Singstar or why not Guitarr Hero? The truth is that you are so afraid that you favorit consol will lose this gen, not because of the Wiimote might give more casual/miniparty games and less hardcore, but just that you will end up behind the company everybody said will become a 3rd party dev last gen.

ssj12 is clearly a follower of that idea: casual games or accesories is good as long it is on the PS3. Motion sensors is good as long as it on the PS3. If something is on the Wii it is shit! Or why are you, ssj12, defending Eye Toy and the sixaxis when you seem to belive that the Wiimote and Nintendo is the big Satan? What is the difference? As a dev you could always chose to make a game with the classic controll, just as Nintendo is doing with SSMB:B or FE.

I must say that I personally love the idea behind Guitarr Hero, I can think that the Eye Toy could bring some fun games, buzz is really really fun on a pre-party or just a party. Just as the old boardgame TP is. Heck I can even understand Singstar because I then can share my hobby with others that don't understand why it is so fun to blow things up.

Here is an final sentence that you mayby should read more than once:

All games aren't made for YOU, just as not all clothes/music/movies are made for YOU!
