Forums - Sales Discussion - Everyone wins this generation except Sony! Y cant people get it??

sounds like an excuse from a xboxfanboy.

Yes we all know Sony will not dominate like they did last time.
Going into this generation everyone knew that.
So lets say sony loss only 1% of its share to MS then you would consider it a loss for Sony and a win for MS?

its a new generation, and a new race.

If a runner ran the mile in 4min and everyone else ran it in 6min, he wins.
If that runner ran the next race in 4min30secs and everyone else ran it in 5min
Who won?

The runner who ran it in 4min30secs even tho he ran slower the 2nd time and everyone else ran it faster.

Although this time Sony ran it in 5 min along with MS, while Nintendo ran it in 4:30.

While last time Nintendo and MS ran it in 6 min and Sony in 4 min.

So you can see that this time Sony in fact lost the leadership, that's losing, not winning by a smaller margin like you implied.

But in this case the race isn't done. and he was disproving the OP's point and not putting it into present day figures

Honestly, I think defining it as "Success" or "Failure" causes unnecessary arguments and prevents people from seeing the point ...

Being that people tend to favour products that are associated with trusted and popular brands, Nintendo and Microsoft have improved their position for the rest of this generation (and the upcomming generation) by simply increasing the number of people who have bought their systems; at the same time I think most people will accept that Sony has an uphill battle to sell systems to 1/2 the people who bought a PS2 and thus they have degraded their position in the market.

The other consideration is growth of the company/division and the increasing value of the IPs the companies hold (and are able to produce). The unrivaled profitability of Nintendo, combined with their ability to increase the sales of their software (generation over generation), has given them the ability to aquire (and organically grow) the number and quality of their developers and has increased the value of their IP portfolio. In contrast, Sony is struggling to approach the sales they achieved with the PS2 and has been bleeding money; this combines to mean that the value of their IPs is shrinking and they will have difficulty maintaining the number and quality of their developers.

Blu-ray - PS3 - Sony - WIN.

Games like GT5, FFXIII, GoW3, KZ2, LBP and etc. are STILL NOT OUT.
MGS4 already has shown PS3 power. =]
PS3 domination will be UNSTOPTABLE at 299$ with Full BC SLIM.

Every 5 seconds on earth one child dies from hunger...

2009.04.30 - PS3 will OUTSELL x360 atleast by the middle of 2010. Japan+Europe > NA.

Gran Turismo 3 - 1,06 mln. in 3 weeks with around 4 mln. PS2 on the launch.
Gran Turismo 4 - 1,16 mln. with 18 mln. PS2 on the launch.

Final Fantasy X - around 2 mln. with 5 mln. PS2 on the launch.
Final Fantasy X-2 - 2.4 mln. with 12 mln. PS2 on the launch.

1.8 mln. PS3 today(2008.01.17) in Japan. Now(2009.04.30) 3.16 mln. PS3 were sold in Japan.
PS3 will reach 4 mln. in Japan by the end of 2009 with average weekly sales 25k.

PS3 may reach 5 mln. in Japan by the end of 2009 with average weekly sales 50k.
PS2 2001 vs PS3 2008 sales numbers =) + New games released in Japan by 2009 that passed 100k so far

No, Microsoft are the losers.

They launched a year earlier than Nintendo and Sony in an attempt to win, but put out a poor console which has a high failure rate are, this year, in which should be its peak, it is coming 3rd.

Sony has had massive success considering the price point of the PS3.

Isn't this considered spamming?

You post the same comment on every thread made. Calm down man, cool a bit.

the only failure is this thread. As long as sony makes a profit they're happy, and will make another console, which will make me happy.

It's really funny to read the flip-flop comments in this thread. In other threads, when someone says that the 360 is a success because it is selling much better than the original Xbox did (in all regions, no less), then PS3 fans claim that the "winner" will be Sony because the PS3 will eventually pass the 360 in sales.

Yet, now that someone points out that the PS3 isn't going to sell nearly as well as the PS2 did, the argument changes to "PS3 vs PS2 sales are irrelevant to the PS3's success".

That's pretty hilarious... if the 360 outsells the original Xbox and takes a larger market share percentage than the Xbox did, it's a failure. If the PS3 sells below PS2 levels and takes a smaller market share percentage, it's a success.

Personally, I believe all 3 consoles are successes based on their installed base, game libraries, and future potential, and I've said so in numerous threads. The reason the OP's post in so important is to point out the flip-flop thinking of a lot of posters... how the bar keeps getting moved based on which console is discussed. "Domination" is definitely a moving target around here.

interesting way to look at the situation

Yes another way to look at the situation would be profits.
