Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Rare hinting at a Viva Pinata Wii?

That IS an interesting reaction. I'm not going to read too much into it though.

MS certainly doesn't consider Nintendo competition in the same way they do Sony (which they are competing against on many different levels) however it IS still competition. Why put VP on Wii? For Japan recgonition? DS is enough for that.

VP no doubt would sell a lot better on Wii and that would be profitable for MS to do but it'd take away from the 360 and MS trying to make it more casual accessible so I just don't see it happening. Unless they have some more substancial back and forth going on with Nintendo that we could even guess.

ToastyJaguar I didn't and still won't expect this to happen as well, But they didn't answer the question like that without a reason don't you say? You shouldn't be to surprised if it happens.

It's pretty sad that the VP series is all that the once mighty Rareware has going these days... PD:Zero was a big let down, Kameo was eh, Grabbed by the Ghoulies a joke, and now we have a bastardized Banjo-Kazooie game coming out... when will it end! Oh, and as for Killer Instinct... i DON'T want Rare to make a new game since they'd prolly fuck that up too!

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

I can tell you that i will be hugely surprised if this happens.

kind of funny that MS allows rare to make games for the DS and wii, but when Rare wants to release goldeneye for the XBLA, Nintendo acts like pricks. just goes to show who really are the "moneygrubbers" that people claim MS is.

I agree. And on a related note, I have a bridge you may be interested in purchasing...

Back on topic: I honestly don't know what to make of that exchange. They just finished saying that Microsoft's okay with Rare making DS games because Microsoft doesn't have its own handheld, so in that arena Microsoft and Nintendo aren't competitors. So why would you have such a bizarre response to the Wii question? The only thing that makes any sense is that the remark was an off-the-cuff one that means nothing.

As long as Microsoft owns Rare then Viva Pinata will not go on the Wii.
It's only on the DS because it's not in direct competition with the 360.

Agreed, they wouldn't make software for the Apple Mac, oh wait... They have been doing that for years.

Can you seriously see Microsoft studios announcing at E3 they are going to make a VP for the Wii?

They may aswell make Rare a 3rd party studio if they do that. Would you allow your 1st party studio to make a game for a system other than your own if you were in charge of Nintendo?

If it's to make VP a much more popular franchise so when new VPs are on the 360 they'd sell well then yes.

I see where your coming from but we are going to have to agree to disagree because i just can't see VP on the Wii.

Trouble in Paradise is coming out very soon with no reason for a Wii game to boost it's sales, a DS game could do the job even better and Microsoft themselves want to tap into some of the Wii's casual userbase. It's going agaisnt everything Microsoft are trying to achieve.

Yeah, but after TIP they're likely going to release new VPs. It's just a way of gaining popularity. It's not like a VP on the Wii is going to lower 360 sales or anything lol.

1) Rare is 1st party and part of Microsoft game studios. That should be enough to settle any doubt.

2) Wii is in more competition with the 360 than the DS is. There are more DS's than Wii's so this is a better way to gain popularity.

3)Microsoft wants to tap into Wii's casual userbase, hence the rumoured motion controller, which Viva Pinata TIP is rumored to utilize.

That's 3 strikes against Viva Pinata going to the Wii.

Unless the Rare rep knows that they are being brought out by Nintendo in the near future...

1. They put VP on the DS. And don't give me the "they're not competing with the DS!" because the way you said it MS would not put a first party game on another platform besides theirs.

2. I thought MS said the Wii and 360 are "different" and are not in direct competition? At least, not a direct threat to them.

3. OK...? But if they want to tap in the Wii's casual userbase why not actually make a game for the Wii? I don't see your point.

I think Microsoft want's to tap into the Wii's causal userbase by making them buy 360's. How can they do that if they make games for the Wii?

And the DS isn't competing with the 360 in the same way as the Wii. Making VP on DS is good for Rare, good for Microsoft and good for Nintendo, the same can't be said about a VP on Wii.

lol @ OP

"just how badly does microsoft want viva pinta to succed.."

That's the best man, almost like the other joke about Sony figuring that to sell PS3's they would start an initiative with Nintendo to bundle them with Wii's.

I'm Unamerica and you can too.

Viva Pinata coming to the Wii. Banjo on the Wii too? Maybe even a good Donkey Kong game on the Wii?

Well this game is much better suited for the wii than 360 so why not. :) MS could get a lot of money for a quick port.
