Not sure why you got this wrong idea but the DS loadtime is NOT horrible. Games load INSTANTLY

and to be honest, i was really surprised how many DS they sold in Japan.... only i bought one myself and find out there are really TONNES of great games on DS.
Me and my wife now both play our DSs a lot everyday (when we are at home) and our home consoles are all covered by dust at the moment.
Actually the only home console we touch these days is the Wii but nowhere it's getting as much attention as our DSs

Japans economy is still recovering, customers are going for lowest price.

No, i heard th epsp has horrible load times, I never played a ds, seen it though.

Seeing as the DS is a cartridge, I'm shocked you'd believe the load times are horrible. They are as bad as load times for the SNES! Now, online and DS download and play aren't instant, so if that is what was being referred to as load time, it's true, some games can take a while (Elite Beat Agents 4 player 1 catridge took about a minute to load the song). Though that varies from game to game. (Mario Kart DS took 40 seconds, and then no wait time afterwards with no other cartridges)

And Sony's games division, minus hardware, likely is still making a tidy profit. If they do lose their hardware, which I presume they won't give up too easily since formats are also a nice cash cow, and I think they really really want blue ray to win. Sony games can still sell internationally, and the PS3 isn't dead yet.

LOL the headline is wrong... Nintendo has over 80% of the hardware market in Japan. Add up your numbers ;)

Prepare for termination! It is the only logical thing to do, for I am only loyal to Megatron.

Sony makes most of their money licensing games for use on their systems. If they dont have the hardware they would lose all that license money as well.

I dont see them continuing their 1st party games, they would just sell the rights.

If you take a train in Tokyo in the morning, you'll probably see a few people playing with DS every day. You'll perhaps see two with PSP a week.

DS is still selling at a phenomenal pace in Japan. Most of the major retail stores in Tokyo are still out of stock. It is as if the whole nation is trying to buy it.

Michael Jackson recently visited Japan and he went to one of the biggest electronic stores in Tokyo to buy DS, only to find out that even he couldn't get one. It was a bit funny when I heard it.

That's pretty stupid ;) I wouldn't sell him one (in Japan) anyway!

(lots of unpleasant things to say about MJ, and will try to refrain...)

The DS has more sales potential than home consoles. Usually when people get their home consoles its for the whole family to play (so its kinda like 1 console is used by 4 or more). Portables are a little different, one DS for the little kid and one for the older brother is not that rare (there may even be an exclusive DS for the momma to play Brain Age and Nintendogs). Considering that Japans population is around 120 m (correct me if I am wrong)  and that not everyone plays videogames the ratio 4 to 1 doesnt apply really well. I think that is caused by 1) DS drawing in new game players and 2) the DS being a gadget aimed for personal use (like cel phones) not for the whole family. There is also the fact that people consider "upgrading" their DS to DS Lite. That may explain why they are always out of stock.
