Forums - Sales - When will PS3 Surpass Xbox360?

i dont think the wii will ever slow down until nintendo announces a new crazy high def super wii with incredibly advanced motion sensing.

its only just getting started, mario galaxy and smash bros are two huge killer apps this christmas. then you have mariokart and animal crossing which are huge sellers. dont even mention wiifit, that game will be massive if nintendo can market it correctly. plus everything in between.

and then the inevitable wii sports 2. once that comes out ms and sony should just pack up and start planning their next consoles.

The ps3 will pass the xbox360 some time in 2009. Ps3's 2008 line up is far superior to the 360's and the wii's and that will make all the difference.

Is it possible for the Ps3 to pass the 360? yes. Can I give you a magic date? no. I could try to give you a magic craisin, but it wouldn't be the same at all.

Often it is as much about what your competitor doesn't do correctly than about what you do well. With Halo 3 out this year, Ms has released its next-gen version of its killer franchise. If it simply has no games of that caliber up for a while, ps3 has a chance.Going for Ms is the fact that it has some good support from third parties. Gears of War and Bioshock are examples of what a third party can do with the 360.

I think the HD game battle is going to be very close by the end of the generation. I am not going to rule out either side as a possible victor.

LOL that's a good one...  Prove it!  Show us the magical lineup for 2008 that Sony apparently has compared to what Nintendo has (which they've yet to talk about) and what MS has (who's also been quiet about 2008).  You only need to talk about next years items if this years items can't hold their own.  It's called dangling a carrot...  Most games scheduled for next year are all tentative... meaning they could come out next year... of they could get delayed.

Prepare for termination! It is the only logical thing to do, for I am only loyal to Megatron.

I'm not so sure they ever will pass the XBox 360 ...

In the near future the PS3 will be lucky to outsell the XBox 360 on a worldwide scale by 75,000 to 125,000 units per month; this would essentially have the PS3 matching the XBox 360 sales outside of Japan and their Japaneese sales would be what was letting them cut into Microsoft's lead. At that rate it would take Sony 4 to 7 years to catch Microsoft. The problem is that this is not a likely scenerio ...

What I think the most likely scenerio is that Microsoft's crushing lead in North America and moderate lead in the Other's region will force most western third party developers to produce an XBox 360 version of any PC or PS3 games that they make. At the same time as this is happening the Wii will be attracting the bulk of Japaneese (and worldwide focused) developers whilst western third parties still focus a lot of attention to the Wii. The end result of this developer distribution is that Nintendo (by default) will get a lot of exclusive titles, Microsoft will be able to pay a little money to secure exclusives and Sony will have to pay money to secure ports of games.

Ultimately, the XBox 360 will have more games, more exclusive games, and often the higher quality version of a game while being sold at a lower price which means the PS3 will never be able to match its sales outside of Japan. Even with their sales in Japan the PS3 will have a great deal of difficulty outselling the XBox 360 by more than 25,000 units per month regularly which means that it will never outsell the XBox 360.

I predict PS3 to outsell the 360 by summer - fall 2008.

You seem to forget europe where even now PS3 sell more and it hasn't  games and it cost 250€ more than X360.

The irony is killing me.

ps3 wont sellout the 360 anytime in 2008, it's just not possible without a $200 price drop on the 80gig in time for the holiday season. ergo: it wont happen. ps3 will net alot of sales over FF13, socom and mgs4, but it wont be enough to make 6 million console sales.

no long term predictions can really be made as software will always break the numbers. however, since Sony has traditionally had the software diversity to keep sales up, i'll hazard a worthless guess of late 2009.

Brillant fanboy post with the use of 'LOL' to show off how mature you are. Wether you like it or not the ps3 in 2008 has more proven top rated multi million selling franchises coming out than any other console. The ps3 just off the top of my head has:

Gran Turismo 5

Final Fantasy 13

Final Fantasy Versus XIII

Grand Theft Auto 4 (not coming to wii)

Metal Gear Solid 4

Killzone 2

Monster Kingdom

The Getaway 3

Tekken 6

Driver 5

Devil May Cry 4 (not coming to wii)

Wipeout

Burnout 5 (not coming to wii)

Resident Evil 5 (not coming to wii)

Then their are a bunch of promising new games such as, LittleBigPlanet, DC Universe, Eight Days, L.A. Noire and White Knight Story.
