MS could never approach breaking even on each X-box sale because of the periodic price reductions of the PS2. While Sony was breaking even or taking a small loss, MS was taking a big loss or a really big loss.

For this generation the situation is reversed. MS is already making a per unit profit of the 360, they have been for about 9 months. Sony on the other hand, even with the removal of the EE and reduction of Blu-Ray diode costs, is still taking a significant hit on each PS3 sold. MS could drop the price now and still break even. Sony doesn't have that luxury. Once the switch to 65nm occurs, MS will be making even more profit per unit. MS will have Sony in a difficult predicament, the same one that Sony had them in during the prior generation. They can either match MS' price drops on the 360 and continue to take massive losses or they can stand firm on price and watch as the Wii and 360 pull farther and farther ahead of them. The worse part for Sony is that while MS took massive losses with the X-box to stay on equal footing when it came to pricing, Sony will be taking massive losses with a price cut while still being the more expensive console.

I just don't see how Sony can ever match MS when it comes to pricing. The PS3's sales will always be hampered by its more expensive price. By the time Sony can get the PS3 down to a mass market pricing level, the Uus and X-box 720 will be about to launch. Then the only potential advantage the PS3 has will be gone, it won't be the "most powerful" console any longer. You can bet your life that the Nintendo "Uus" will be $250 and it will look a great deal next to the $200 PS3 and $400 X-box 720.


i know this thread is about sales.. but i cant sit by idly and let people feed you this junk... Microsoft themselves have stated that they dont expect to make profit off the 360 until sometime in2008.. so how can you all of a sudden just tell everyone that they are making a profit on each console made without any proof facts or links to prove... it sickens me when people just say things without merrit...


URNotE, I said profit per unit. It cost MS $325 to make a premium 360. That figure was as of the 4th Quarter of 2006. It sells for $399. Thats a per unit profit. I did not say that MS's games division was making a profit. The fact that not one of the PS supporters has been able to post a reasonable response to my post regarding pricing speaks volumes. I took the time to type out a detailed four paragraph post detailing why the PS3 will not surpass the 360. Three whole days later, you post a paragraph of spin. It sickens me when people quote someone but lack the reading comprehension skills to understand what they just quoted. Since unlike you, I actually took the time to read your post here is a link of ISupply's cost of analysis of the PS3 and 360.

 Wait, where did anyone say Miis were a selling point? They're not. The only thing that makes them a 'selling point' is the fact they show up in some of the games you play, but even that isn't going to pull in people to buy a Wii.

I've started to notice that there are some people who are capable of intellectual debate and conversation here, and those who are entirely devoid of such abilities. Like I've stated elsewhere, if you've got a good opinion of things, and can intelligently prove why you think one thing is a certain way and that way might not be the same as I think of it, that's fine. I can at least understand where your position is. There are some that just don't even try.

If your entire answer to something, especially a nice chunk of well-written conversation is a one liner of poor grammar and mindless fanboy banter, you should be shunned.

When? I say never. The PS3's inability to expand past the core gamer wont allow it. Thus I forsee very Xbox/GC/PSP sales range. Anywhere from 20-40 million` I expext 360 to have very N64 esque sales putting 1m sales in Japan, 10m in PAL, and 20m hn Americas. I dont think the PS3 will be able to beat that. For PS3 very GC esque sales. 5m in japan, 9m in PAL, and 13m in Americas. That would it behind 360. PS3's inability to provide to 80% of the market will be its downfall.

And don't bring in the PS3 price drop, the 360 can drop it's price as well and still be $200 cheaper.  It costs $800 to make a PS3, and it costs $400 to make a 360.

I could go on for the entire list, and guess what we could also say everyone who wants FFXIII and MGS4 have a PS3 MGS4 only sold 3 million so it sounds right. Those who want GT5 after 8-10 mln. sales worldwide, now only 3 left? LOL.

ALSO LA NOIRE is xbox 360 and Forza sold 150 k in one week, 1) prove that. 2) with 6 mln. in usa only 150k? LOL.

L.A. Noire isn't exclusive to the PS3, and I'm not even sure where someone would have gotten the idea is was.  For starters if you go to Team Bondi's website (developers of the game) you'll see they have it listed for "next generation consoles" (as in more than one specific console).  Also if it were a PS3 exclusive would the official Xbox Magazine have covered it?  In fact nowhere on Rockstar or Team Bondi's webpage do they even have the PS logo or say that it's exclusive to the PS3.

Yeah I've noticed that. Thats why I asked were Staticneuron was. I didn't agree with him often but he wrote detailed and intelligent posts. His post were better than mine a good deal of the time.

Last time I checked, it hadn't even cracked 500k, much less 1m.

Or do you even check the charts that ioi provides? Maybe thats the reason you have the intelligence of that PS3kid on youtube.
