In regards to Mario and sonic. Just remove the Japanese sales as its published by Nintendo in Japan.

That's a great achievement for Infinity Ward, Vgchartz numbers are also pretty close in line with this 10M mark. Xbox 360 and PS3 combined are at 9.34M. Maybe a tat high when adding in PC sales (and less importantly DS sales), but they're pretty close.

Edit: On topic of titles reaching 10M this generation, GTA IV, Guitar Hero III and CoD 4 are there or almost there already, so they're a given. I assume there will be other titles reaching the 10 million barrier, although so far they've all been multiplatform games. So far I don't think any third party single title is announced yet to break the 10M barrier.

Prediction: The PS3 will surpass the 360 on weekly sales after it drops to $299 on all regular weeks (no big releases).

I'm fairly certain that you can rule out any Wii game that has Wii as sole console.

You could also rule out most multiplatform Wii games, as they woud normally not have good enough physics and graphics and such for the HDs. The Guitar heroes and such do not count in here, but GH is really the only that fits.

Some Wii and DS combined games could make it, but I doubt it. M&S is the only one I think has a shot there.

So I think that the game would have to be either Ps360 or a quadruple/quintuple (Ps360, Wii, DS, PsP) to make it.

It would be an absurdly expensive game to require even 2 million sales to break even. 5 million sales on a single platform is incredible, check out the total games hitting 5 million on these consoles:

PS2 - 12 games
XBOX - 2 games
360 - 4 games
PS3 - 0 games yet (GTA4 should pass 5 million at some point)

Gears 2 should pass 5 million but hitting 5 million is not an easy achievement. Even more interesting is that 2 franchises alone Halo (3) and GTA (4) account for over half of the over 5 million copies sold games from the latest 2 Sony and M$ consoles. Sure there is more analysis worth doing on this (Nintendo Consoles, 1st vs 3rd party) but my lunch break does not allow for it!

Why did you leave Wii out?
It has 6 right now with 3 more on the way in just a few weeks.
