Forums - Sony Discussion - 40 GB PS3 to be Backwards Compatible in Oct. through Firmware???

personally I feel its better than screwing launch buyers like M$ did...

they slowly added stuff to the console...as launch buyer I would feel duped.

but then again SONY went back on their "brand equity" by taking out BC

Are you talking BC? Cause if so, MS never claimed 360 is fully backwards compatible. They were not marketing that aspect...it was an added bonus that will be a working project.

It's definitely possible. Software emulation isn't easy but it's possible. However, I doubt the source.

ofcourse there's nothing wrong but I as a launch buyer would feel ripped of..

I mean SONY lowered the price by £100 after 7 months of launch in EU...thats pissed me of a lot

But I am glad no new feature was added to the console at the same time..

PS2 slim...what extra feature did it have....as I cam very late to PS2 (late 05)

The ability to use component cables, for one.

Or check out my new webcomic: http://selfcentent.com/

Well the decision made so much sense to remove BC, Sony probably anticipated a slowdown on PS2 sales, so they put the PS2 hardware in the PS3 thinking everyone would happily move on over, when that didn't happen with the PS3, and PS2 sales were still insane x.x why make the console that's not selling well more expensive, and encourage the one that makes you truckloads to stop selling?

I knew the PS2 emulation was going to be somewhere down the road, this October puts the PS2 what, 8 years into it's life? Seems like a good time to boost the PS3 to me :P

My PS2 was hooked up to component cables since 2001 and it is a launch unit.

EDIT:In fact, when I bought my PS3, I just unhooked the component cables from the PS2 and stuck it into the PS3, so the investment was well worth it.

Actually the slim did not have an expansion bay for a harddrive, so it had a smaller feature set then the original.

EDIT: I was partially wrong. See Profcrab's post for details

Any why is anyone concerned with the "performance" issues? The Cell and the RSX are far better than anything the PS2 could handle XD It'll be "tricky" no doubt, but if anyone knows the material I'm sure Sony would x.x;

Ah, I thought they switched the output plug. Someone lied to me!

...

Waitaminute, it was the GameCube that changed the ability to use component.

Sony added an IR sensor to the PS2 Slim as well as an ethernet port.

 I give that post a 9.2.

Thank god for the disable signatures option.

You're a no-good blowhard.

I give your post a 9.1.
