Forums - Sales - I blame wii fit for poor sales

@ obieslut

your laughing about supply constraint in Europe?

There probably is supply constraint there... concidering that in Australia its still sold out everywhere.

how much did nintendo ship ? It's weird though that they advertise this game so much and only sent about 900k to the stores, very weird.

again, those numbers are just for the first 3 days of sales, wii fit launched on may 21st, and the data is for the week ending may 24th, as i said before, it should be above a mill by now.

It's about brand image people. If you don't understand that then you don't understand the current games market. Nintendo is building the Wii brand to be THE brand associated with games. Much like how Coke and McDonalds advertise like crazy, Nintendo is keeping the Wii name in the backs of every persons mind. You go get a game and even if you don't want a Wii, you still check the Wii side to see what it's all about. One day you just might own a Wii and the day that happens is the day the marketing and branding worked.

The game is sold out, but it keeps people coming into the store asking for it. This causes other people in the store who over hear someone asking about it to remember it. In turn, they're interest is peaked and they might one day buy the product.

I was expecting Nintendo to ship somewhere around 500k boards. I'm rather shocked they shipped and sold as many as they did. We all knew it'd be sold out so that's no surprise but it was an excellent opening week.

Prepare for termination! It is the only logical thing to do, for I am only loyal to Megatron.

Supply constraint,
How did i know this argument would pop up lol, and i guess europe is still supply constraint lmao
Because TheSource said so, http://vgchartz.com/news/news.php?id=1224"Nintendo’s only real shortcoming for the week is Wii Fit, which did not perform as well as expected because of relatively paltry supply."

Because the media & every online gaming store said so, Wii fit still out of stock in every gaming store like Amazon, Gamestop, Best Buy, Circuit City & etc 1 day before Wii Fit release.

Poor PS3 Sales Means Smaller Losses

"Actually, because the number of units sold was not as high as we hoped, the loss was better than our original expectation," Quotes from Sony’s CFO Nobuyuki Oneda.

Wii Fit didn't under-perform, Nintendo under-delivered. It's sold out everywhere and is selling for well over $100 on ebay and other sites. If they actually supplied enough units for once, it would've sold over a million easily. Nintendo either screwed up the launch big time or they're trying to drum up hype with shortages (something I still don't believe is or ever was the case with the Wii itself).

Wow at the Amazon sales. They had like 3-4 boxes at gamestop the other day unless they were pulling their old "Display boxes only" trick.

They even had a Wii in stock. Sure it was used and priced at 220 but still.  Almost makes me want to go down there tommorrow and see if i could make some fat ebay money.

OK Wii Fit was launched in NA this week, and many people thought the game was going to sell like 10 trillion or something.

The game has failed to reach 1 Million in NA in its first week dispite lots of marketing.

I do think this game has sold well but has sold under expectations. Looks at Ninty fanz.

And some people predicted that this game would sell over 1mil in NA first week with ease. Not going to name you but youno who you are.

Now that the results are in is anybody going to admit to being wrong and lower there predictions.

I'm going as far to say that this game will not pass ps3 or x360 ltd sales.

The people that predicted Wii Fit would sell over 1 mil first week where right. The numbers we have only account for 3 days.

It's basically sold out everywhere so it couldn't have sold below expectations.

As for the supply, believe it or not but Nintendo has always done that. They never ship enough even when it's not a huge product. My sister had a lot of trouble to get DDR Mario Mix back in the Gamecube days and that game didn't sell so well.

How many cups of darkness have I drank over the years? Even I don't know...

Wii+ Wii Fit+ Wii Play. Wii with like 50+ Games.

Oh. Only a 3 day week eh?
That explains how it could sell 650k first day and then only another 200k the rest of the week. That and supply, whatever the truth is behind that.
