It's about brand image people. If you don't understand that then you don't understand the current games market. Nintendo is building the Wii brand to be THE brand associated with games. Much like how Coke and McDonalds advertise like crazy, Nintendo is keeping the Wii name in the backs of every persons mind. You go get a game and even if you don't want a Wii, you still check the Wii side to see what it's all about. One day you just might own a Wii and the day that happens is the day the marketing and branding worked.
The game is sold out, but it keeps people coming into the store asking for it. This causes other people in the store who over hear someone asking about it to remember it. In turn, they're interest is peaked and they might one day buy the product.
I was expecting Nintendo to ship somewhere around 500k boards. I'm rather shocked they shipped and sold as many as they did. We all knew it'd be sold out so that's no surprise but it was an excellent opening week.
Prepare for termination! It is the only logical thing to do, for I am only loyal to Megatron.
