Forums - Nintendo - What will happen to 3rd parties that ditch the Wii and continue on ps360?

@soriku, yes Disney is all about kids, that is why they so targeted kids in the creation of movies like Pirates, Narnia, and National Treasure. Also, the Wii family thing, yeah, they market that, like no one ever played the earlier Nintendo systems with their family, or Sega, or Playstation, or xbox, or even pong on the atari. Everyone only played games by themselves before the Wii came out. And you are comparing Zelda, to Kingdom Hearts. That is funny.

@happysquirrel, I would be really interested in seeing how you think it would work on the Wii instead of just saying my perfectly logical criticism of how things would work on the Wii is weak. You would want to learn a bunch of symbols to cast magic, and what button would you use to do this? And then what button to attack, what to jump. The way I see it is that the d pad is pretty much off limits, since you cannot quickly get to it, press a button, and quickly get back to a/b to continue attacking. Same with the +/- and 1/2 buttons, unless you want to not use the nun chuck.

I look at it like this:
a-> jump
b-> attack
y-> special attack
z-> block
?-> quick magic menu
?-> quick magic a
?-> quick magic b
?-> quick magic c
?-> quick potion
?-> lock on
?-> camera
d pad-> menu control
?-> anything else that I may be forgetting.

I already found out that you cannot count on the nun chuck detecting the right movement for moves when I played TP, it didn't know whether I wanted to do a shield smash or a spin attack. Don't know if the remote has the same problems, guess if I decide to rent Starwars for the Wii I will find out if it has the same problems since Starwars has side to side and up and down and forward motion integration in there.

"But if the console sales of both HD consoles have healthy sales, then Ninty failed to cannibalized HD market and they fail on their market strategy, which means Malstrom is also wrong..."

This said on the day when the last week's WiiFit monster sales are coming? What is happening with you? The sky is falling... ITS FALLING! lol Just plaing with you.

Now, let me begin by saying that 3rd parties that ditch the Wii will not suffer or die. But, they could end up on the verge of just that. When you ignore a console with a large userbase, it would be the dumbest business decision as there is a lot of money to be made.

Now, Rocketpig, what you said is most definitely true and would be one of the best responses this thread has had so far in saying that this is not the 6th gen, where you had to develop for the Ps2 or you died or failed a lot. But, that doesn't mean that that they should completely go on without it as they would take a blow.

Think about it this way. :

You have an Ipod that can hold 6 mil songs, then there is one that can hold 2 mil and the other can hold 3 mil. Combined, they are less than the total that the 1st has. Just cause more "core" listeners listen to the last 2 you are not going to ditch the 1st right? The other 2 would begin to run out of space while the 1st would have lots of room to choose from and expand on.

I have no idea what the hell I just wrote. I feel like I was drunk typing. Anyway, to summarize the stuff I wrote, in my best possible way, developers can still make games for the Ps3 and 360, but they would be able to expand their name and popularity if they may more games on the Wii. (which a lot of 3rd parties are probably not known to the Wii's casual audience, and they could get known. I mean, Carnival Games probably made Take Two famous in the eyes of Oprah and others who probably played it.

(What did I just type? It's like my words are claustrophobic.)

Well whatever. _

No public owned company can afford to "ditch" the Wii. It's that simple. Sure Epic can do what they want and their core business is pure harcore anyway, but besides them and maybe id-software every other company has to bring quality titles to the Wii or get toasted by the shareholders.

Results have been very bad for software companies lately. PS360 games require enormous investments and their userbase isn't growing very hard.
Wii on the other hand will be around 50 (!) million units sold next april.
Investors know this (hell, I'm sure big investors check VGChartz) and will ask the board why on earth there are no quality titles for the biggest userbase.

Ubisoft is a bad example because they've delivered 2 RRR and Red Steel. You wonder why Red Steel 2 takes so long? Because they didn't expect the Wii to win and now it does they want to make it a quality title. Same with Rygar.

Konami semi-announced Castlevania for Wii. I know it's not MGS but certainly a major franchise. PES already made it to Wii and is selling well.

Capcom: Monster Hunter 3; Tecmo: Fatal Frame and we'll see much more.

Interesting rumours are going on inside SquareEnix at the moment. I'll be amazed if we don't hear anything of them soon.

I think theres wrong with your posts there,

1) When did Ubisoft announced Red Steel 2 coming for the Wii? And if it announced, where are the pics? The teaser? Do you mean that the conduit was the first to show gameplay footage than Red Steel 2?

2) Since when did Konami "even" semi-announced castlevania for the Wii? Simply because theres a Wii menu on DS castlevania does mean that there'll be a castlevania for the Wii.

Some of you guys are really thick-headed. Ubi-Soft announced that they were making another Red Steel last year after the release of the first one. Seeing as how Red Steel managed to become a million-seller, it's pretty obvious they're going to make another one anyway. No pictures have been released because, believe it or not, they're working on the bloody game right now. They also said they're aiming for online deathmatches and more refined controls. Konami has essentially admitted that a new Castlevania game for the Wii is being worked on.

It's been mentioned a few times as the dev (whose name escapes me at the moment) indicated a high interest in working on the Wii but said they don't think a whip-swinging motion would be a logical fit. On top of which, there was a report last year from GameSpot indicated that Square-Enix, Sega, and Capcom all dropped a lot of PS3 support to focus more directly on Wii and DS. Keep in mind, it takes a while to make a game, so the fruits of this switch probably won't start showing up in earnest until 2009. At the time of the article, Square-Enix had actually abandoned the PS3 completely except for the two versions of FFXIII. A rumor came up afterwards that Sony begged (with $$$) for Square-Enix to craft another exclusive PS3 title for them. Don't expect to see that until 2010 at the soonest.

Nobody is really dropping the Wii. It's the new popular system. Nintendo has more third party devs and publishers on their side now than they've had for the last two console generations. The heavy support of the VC and Wii Ware titles backs this up as well. Yeesh.

The thing is, a lot of 3rd party companies were slow to adopt the Wii, just as they were slow to adopt the DS. But now that they've seen the success, they've been moving back into Nintendo's camp en masse. Many still want to make the visual masterpieces they can on the Xbox260 and PS3, but the Wii's sales continue to be very strong. They won't be ignoring that for long.

 I dont know a wii game could take that long, if thats the case if we will see games not this year but in 2009/2010 then  third party games are longer to make than Super Mario Galaxy. The game announced in E3 2006, it released in Novemebr 2007 in North America. But thats what I thought. I thought games are easier to develop on the Wii? Developers shouldnt take that long...

Are you being this naive on purpose?   Seriously.  The one factor that the Wii absolutely has going for it you blindly call into question?

Did you ever try Godfather on Wii?  If EA can make that happen on Wii with such intuitive controls, I have faith S-E can manage.

The rEVOLution is not being televised

Lol at cwbys21, seems like you never played MP3, that game needs more buttons than KH, and yet it manages to control perfectly.
Sorry try again.

a-> jump
b-> attack
z-> lock on
c-> block
motion-> special attack
pointer-> quick magic menu
pointer-> quick magic a
pointer-> quick magic b
pointer-> quick magic c
pointer-> quick potion
d pad-> camera

or

a-> jump
b-> attack
z-> block
minus-> lock on
c-> while holding, motion in a direction to cast magic
left-> quick magic a
up-> quick magic b
right-> quick magic c
down-> quick potion
pointer-> quick magic menu
motion-> special attack
d pad-> camera

Not the best setups, but they took two minutes to come up with. A workable control scheme is far from impossible.

And just so this isn't completely off topic: If 3rd parties don't support the Wii, then they won't make as much money. That's about it really. The HD market is big enough to keep them from going under, but supporting all consoles would be the smartest move.

History has shown that, when a company retains the "old values" of past iterations and abandons or refuses to adopt the "new values" of a disruptive iteration, their games become increasingly niche until they find themselves catering to a very small userbase. A good example of this is the old-fashioned tactical simulation game. Most people don't have any idea what Master of Orion is, nor have they heard of Galactic Civilizations. After the real-time strategy genre disrupted that genre, it faded into relative obscurity.

So assuming they remain focused on the "old values", those companies will pander to ever-shrinking markets. Given that their game budgets are prohibitively huge, this will mean that they will either have to lower production values or charge a premium for their software.

Sky Render - Sanity is for the weak.

No I haven't played Godfather or MP, thank god. And the reason I called the motion sensing into question is because it had a tough time working on Zelda, it is a legitimate complaint. I did notice Phendana at least made an attempt at what the controls could be instead of just saying, uh it will work, stop being stupid. Again, having to move your hand up to the d pad to do a quick magic spell isn't going to work I don't think. The reason you are able to move your hand around to select different items in Zelda is because the pacing is A LOT slower than KH is. To have to that in a fast paced battle to cast a spell to heal yourself or to do some AOE damage if you are surrounded doesn't sound good to me. I could see maybe using magic by pressing c and doing a motion, but how many motions do you want to map to the remote before they start getting close to over lapping? You going to cut down the number of quick commands you are going to use from 5 to 3? Or are you going to map some to the nun chuck (which I already said I had doubts about its ability, maybe it is better at sensing side to side and up and down better than any motion and forward).
