Wait, so ALL 3rd party is at 50% of total sales, and you think that games other than first party sell?
Not to mention the top 7 games on the console are all Nintendo.
Your other points are fair enough, but this one? Not a chance.

50% of 50 million = 25 million
Wii - 25 million (only 3rd parties)
X360 - 28 million (all sales)
PS3 - 20 million (all sales)
Want to retract that comment yet?

Simple math for the win!

That would be cherry picking. Everyone knows more than 50% of Wii games are crap and don't deserve to sell 1 copy. This would skew the picture in favour of Nintendo and wouldn't offer the best data point. |
That’s not cherry picking. Cherry picking would be to look at a subset of the data, or to list a small statistic, and present it as a large one. I am talking about looking at the exact say set of data, yet presenting in from a publishers point of view.
The perspective you presented the data is equally valid, and from Nintendo’s point of view, very valuable, but I think the concern with 3rd part support, is if a developer feels it’s hard to recoup expenses and make a profit, they will pass on developing for the Wii.
I wonder what the statistic for high profile 3rd party new IP’s on the Wii is. What’s the average sale per title on those games? That’s really all that matters when someone is concerned about this subject.
Anyone have that data? I guess we could look it up here :)

Mario Kart Wii was announced like 6 months before release, wasn't it? And that's one of their 3 or 4 biggest sellers each generation. |
You're actually spot on with the 6 months thing. I had to look up when E3 2007 took place (It was in October). I don't think we need to list unnnanounced games to get the point across, there are plenty of announced games already which will easily cover us for the year if no other games get announced.

Third parties have high profile new IP's on the Wii? The only new IP's I can think of that were good are Boom Blox, No More Heros and Zack and Wiki. There were a bunch of smaller games like Dewey's Adventure and Elebits but otherwise third parties have brought their C game to the Wii and still made money. I don't see what the issue is for them. If they can turn a profit off a C game, why not bring the A game to the Wii and make more money?
Also, No More Heroes and Zack and Wiki sold very well for what they are and what the developer was expecting.

Yea you know, cause developing a game for any HD console is cheaper than developing on Wii...............
Making a Wii game costs FAR LESS than maknig an HD game since the technology is already available to use. I dont think any Wii game released already at least in America has brought in losses for the company. Also consider that games get released WW and even with 250k sales they get no losses.
On the other hand an exclusive for an HD console may never recoup its losses, let aside make a single cent of profit.
That's why developing for the Wii is good, probability of losing money is almost 0.

That topic's already been covered in other threads. I'm going to pimp myself now, and refer you to some of my previous posts.

LOL, why are people being defensive against what I said? I have not stated my opinion as to if I think 3rd party support is good or bad on the Wii. I just pointed out that the argument for 3rd party support is a little different they the statistic that was shown by the OP.
I have no clue if 3rd party developers are successful or not, and I don’t really care all that much.
I just read the post, and offered some input on the analyses approach. Nothing more.
