I think a better comparison here would be the average number of copies of each. While around 50% of all game sales for the Wii are not 1st party, the volume of titles are vastly different.

For example, in Nintendo come out with 3 games, and sell 9 million copies, that’s 3 million a game. If 3rd party manufacturers come out with 60 games in that same timeframe, and sell 9 million, that’s 150,000 a game.

I have no idea what those averages are, but I think that’s what people are talking about then they bring up this point.

That would be cherry picking. Everyone knows more than 50% of Wii games are crap and don't deserve to sell 1 copy. This would skew the picture in favour of Nintendo and wouldn't offer the best data point.

That’s not cherry picking. Cherry picking would be to look at a subset of the data, or to list a small statistic, and present it as a large one. I am talking about looking at the exact say set of data, yet presenting in from a publishers point of view.

The perspective you presented the data is equally valid, and from Nintendo’s point of view, very valuable, but I think the concern with 3rd part support, is if a developer feels it’s hard to recoup expenses and make a profit, they will pass on developing for the Wii.

I wonder what the statistic for high profile 3rd party new IP’s on the Wii is. What’s the average sale per title on those games? That’s really all that matters when someone is concerned about this subject.

Anyone have that data? I guess we could look it up here :)

Third parties have high profile new IP's on the Wii?  The only new IP's I can think of that were good are Boom Blox, No More Heros and Zack and Wiki.  There were a bunch of smaller games like Dewey's Adventure and Elebits but otherwise third parties have brought their C game to the Wii and still made money.  I don't see what the issue is for them.  If they can turn a profit off a C game, why not bring the A game to the Wii and make more money?

Also, No More Heroes and Zack and Wiki sold very well for what they are and what the developer was expecting.

Prepare for termination! It is the only logical thing to do, for I am only loyal to Megatron.
