I still think their biggest post-launch mistake was removing BC. I believe it's one of the factors that led to decline of sales in Japan. To be a total entertainment machine, you've got to play all the entertainment, not just some of it.

But what if the reason they removed the hardware, was because they were nearing completition of a functional pure software emulator that would be introduced with firmware version 2.4, which is being rumoured to be the largest firmware update the PS3 will have.
I mean from the start Sony wanted to have pure software emulation but fell short and were forced to actually put PS2 hardware in the PS3 for BC, now I my self am just speculating but their's no denying that it could be a possibility.
@fishyjoe
I agree removing BC was stupid. I still bought one without it but I probably would be buying a few PS2 games to go with my PS3 if they would have included it. As it stands I have 2 PS3 games and 2 Blu-ray movies to use on my system. I could have an additional 4 or 5 PS2 games I would have bought new if they had kept it in.
Also, I don't see them ever having full HD movies available for download that defeats the whole purpose of a Blu-ray player or buying their format. They make royalties off each Blu-ray sold so it's not likely they are going to give PS3 owners any other choice when it comes to movies.

Then they should have just waited until that was ready.
Besides, some very pro-PS3 people have said emulation may not be possible because of the GS and memory problem.
sonys fine and sales are what double? they are prolly working on software more then any price cut..... but games will not bring people in if the price is still to high......
i think they need a price cut and to work on software.....i dont think staying at 400 and 500 in 2008 and 2009 will keep the systems sales as high as they are.
they are always working on software so i dont see that as an excuse.
@Rasone, I wouldn't doubt full HD movies on the store, Blu-ray is more than just a movie format after all, besides digital downloads WILL be a big part of the future, and Sony knows this, they however, still need a format for the rest of the world. Digital downloads as far as movies are concerned are a way's from taking off. It's like I stated in another thread, the next Xbox will NEED some form of physical media, because if they decide to go the download only route, they would be royally (pardon the term) fucked. Blu-ray is that next media format whether we want it or not xD.
From 0 to KICKASS in .stupid seconds.
I thought this was a joke thread, either that or someone has stolen Jandree002's account! I can't believe he has doubts about Sony!

Love the product, not the company. They love your money, not you.

well delaying the PS3 would have been no option, and not including BC from the get go would have turned away allot of people that wanted it on day one, so holding out till the software emulation was ready and then removing the hardware and then releasing the software will actually make people happy and forget the fact it didn't have it, but this of course is assuming that my speculation turns out true.
How is emulation not possible on the PS3 considering the PS3 has tons more memory than the PS2?
| ChronotriggerJM said: LOL Fraqing Jake xD God I hope you don't get banned > Sony makes some strange moves, don't get me wrong, but I think your looking a little too hard at what Sony actually has "control" of. So far any project they've directly helped out has been pretty much nothing but great. Don't be looking to Haze or GTA in terms of what the PS3 is capable of, that's the worst place to start lol. I'm actually quite curious to see how much of the SPU potential Haze OR GTA is actually tapping into. From the look of it Haze might not be using... any? The delay's on Sony's behalf should only be looked at in positive light, according to Kaz, Home was delayed because HE felt it wasn't ready. Honestly how badass is that? Besides it's a free service :P We as consumers should have zero say in that matter. They would appear to have dropped the ball big time in making it easy for developers, and in a certain light, they have indeed. But you also have to remember that Sony is in this for the Looooooooooooong haul, what will we be saying next generation if Sony sticks with Cell technology and ends up being the EASIEST to program for considering it's completely compliant with this generation engines? Will we say that Sony's doing more harm than good? Hell no! If anything Sony's encouraging proper code, and that in itself is a great thing. Besides why do we all talk about development cost's like it's a horrid thing. If anything look how many jobs are being supplied by these massive PS3 projects :P I'd love to be a game developer at this day in age xD Talk about job security :P |
And by looking at game companies profits, they should really be afraid of losing their jobs. The "Dow Jones" industries jobs frankly seems more secure at the moment. It's a bit similar thing as the "IT bubble" at the change of the millenia (which lead Nasdaq to be born, since the wise guys saw what really was happening), this time it just is "HD bubble" inside the gaming industry. Even if PS4 would be 100% compatible with this generation engines, it doesn't make it easiest to program for. @Topic: I don't think Sony has given up this generation, their focus just is moved from focusing on winning to trying to make profit. In the foreseeable future, they try to make impact when MGS4, GT5 and FF13/VS. comes out. But the rest of the time they just try to get their money back, which comes more easier as the installbase grows.
