IMO:
Best gameplay: MGS3.
Most thought provoking: MGS2.
Best storyline: MGS1.

^^^ I wasnt making fun of metal gear solid 2 that was Onyxmeth. Every metal gear has crazy bad guys that wouldnt be possible in real life.
| billy07 said: yes, because a guy covered in bees another who walks like a spider and can become invisible, a spaceman who screams fury and the sorrow were very realistic characters. MGS3 felt like a 007 parody, it didnt take itself seriously enough. And do you you actually believe a fantasy setting automatically means that the philosophical implications regarding identity, memes, censorship, "truths", human nature, freewill and others are meaningless? Your argument is weak, the story incorporating fantasy elements (which were still no where near the level of MGS3's ridiculousness) doesn't take away from an underlying messages or morals that Kojima wished player to reflect upon. |
wow... if anything I've become even LESS certain as to which games should be aquired

Alright...its 2 on 2 now...now its fair. I personally like to be entertained when I watch cutscense is videogames and the gamecube port had amazing fight sequences(ala matrix style). As far as emotion in the delivery of the actors, i did not notice it but you may be right. In any case, not like MGS is godfather like materiel that needs top notch acting performances. I think Twin Snakes does the job with voice acting and blows the PS1 version away with the fight sequences. Not to mention that it looks better than PS1 game as its on gamecube. IT looks better that MGS2 to me as well...which I think is the weakest one. MGS3 is the best one in my opinion... |
I only agree that the Matrix fights were cool with Gray Fox just because of the 'cyborg ninja' thing. Other than that, I felt that they decided to put too much over the top'ness into the cutscenes compared to the first one.
Ocelot shooting at Snake's feet while Snake hops backward is cool in the original, but Ocelot shooting a shot directly at Snake while Snake does a backflip is taking it a little too far in my opinion. The same thing goes for the Hind D, is it really necessary for Snake to run and jump onto the missle fired from the helicopter, and then leap off it to get more airtime to fire a stinger at Liquid?
Ugh...
I think Snake is a cool character already, but Twin Snakes takes it too far.
*edit*Also, apparently from the Metal Gear Solid Retrospective on Gametrailers.com, Hideo himeslf asked for the cutscenes to be more original for Twin Snakes.

So does the compilation use teh substinence versions of MGS2 and MGS3? cause I'd prefer to have teh better camera controls. I already hate anything where I have to aim and shoot at people using a joystick, so anything that keeps the controls from sucking on top of that is going to be helpful.
Nevermind, I just looked it up online, and from what it says, it uses the substinence versions. For less that $30 that sounds like a pretty decent deal even if I turn out to hate it.

Time to Work !

Personally, I got the regular MGS2, but from what I've heard, Substance is better. Get Twin Snakes and MGS3: Substinence without a doubt though. |
Subsistence.
