ahh, I misread you. the Others/others category is in question.
Africa, Middle East, India, Asian markets (less Japan).

I'm pretty sure the consoles aren't officially released in most of sub-Saharan Africa either. South Africa and Botswana maybe, but certainly not Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Congo, etc, etc, etc.
Since South Korea doesn't have much in the way of consoles sold (yet), I'd say others/others is a mix of Hong Kong, Taiwan and South America. I don't know if the systems have been released in all South American countries, but I'm sure at the very least Brazil and Argentina have seem a fair share of the other/other console sales pie.
My consoles and the fates they suffered:
Atari 7800 (Sold), Intellivision (Thrown out), Gameboy (Lost), Super Nintendo (Stolen), Super Nintendo (2nd copy) (Thrown out by mother), Nintendo 64 (Still own), Super Nintendo (3rd copy) (Still own), Wii (Sold)
A more detailed history appears on my profile.
It's very simple.
Most of the Asian countries that ioi names are PC-oriented.
The 360 is the console with a library of games closest to the PC. Mystery solved. And as for the countries, I believe that it's pretty much every country not included, although ioi can't track just every country that sells games. The ease of pirating 360 games likely makes it popular worldwide.

South America is actually included in the American section.

Ahh... I had a feeling the Korea number would be quite low. 150k (S Korea) compared to the total of 1,100.000 X360s in the Others/other cathegory doesn't explain much.
"n stuff like that", hehe. "Stuff" like the Middle east accounts for 0 X360/PS3s sold because they aren't officially released there (all sales are imports from other regions). Maybe ioi counts them as sales for Others/other, but in any case the Middle east and India are very very small next-gen console markets. |
Both 360 & PS3 have been officially released in the Middle East. PS3 sold 10k at launch.

If it's mostly Asia it's still weird that the 360 would sell 8 times more units on a weekly basis there than in Japan............
Anyway that market was 40% of the NA market last week for the 360 so it can't be that small.........
^
Actually, it inhabits close to half of the world's population (at least a third) so it wouldn't be that incredible if it sold some consoles.

Oops. For some reason I always read "American" as "North American." I guess ethnocentrism I didn't realize I hd leapt up and made an ass of me.

Remember that even if that region isn't very rich Asia and Africa contributes around 2/3 of global population (it doesn't really matter whether we include Japan or not). As far as I remember Asian GDP (nominal) without Japan is equal to around 9 000 bilion dollars. That's not that far from American GDP (14 000 bln). Africa I think is at 1000 bilion. This aren't small numbers.
I don't think that it is as Montana said that PC-orineted market will buy X360. I think that this may be actually an disadvantage for 360 as most games can be played on PC, so no X360 is needed.
I think that X360 success may have more to do with piracy in those regions and avalibility of pirated software for 360. In most of African/Asian countries pirated software isn't considered any worse than legal.
Is Australia concidered "Others"?
