Already posted, believe the thread was called "Wow, that was quick" or something like that. Thanks anyway.

Well here's the thing!

I read an interview with the Lost Winds creators just recently in which I recall reading that they initially planned on Lost Winds as a full length game to be released via disk like all other traditional games. However when Wii ware was announced they changed their minds and released it on WiiWare instead.

Now if the game was origionally planned for a full disk then I can bet yah that they had already created far more content then they included in the WiiWare game. They likely removed tons of levels and reworked some other issues to shrink the game to the acceptable WiiWare size.

This means they likely have tons of content left over just waiting to be worked into a sequal. Probubly using the exact same graphics engine character models and so fourth. They should have no problem getting a sequal ready within a month or so I'd say.

Unless they aim to release the sequal via disk like most games are. In that case it may take them a couple months to complete a sequal. I think a disk full priced sequal would be smart for Frontier because they can set the price up to 49.99-59.99$ bringing in a much larger profit then they are through WiiWare. They could publish the game themselves to avoid paying royalties and they could generate a couple million dollars in reveniew.

I think they plan on making Lost Winds a franchise, the likes of Mario and Sonic. If so I'm guessing the WiiWare version was just a dry run a way to test the market. Use the fact that their is only 5 other titles to compete with to make a name for the franchise. Now that the WiiWare version has generated so much buzz and created a small but devote fan base, its time to take it to the next level!

I smell a LostWinds:DS game coming , maybe a spin off of Lost Winds and a full blown regular sized/Prices Wii game!

Not surprising. Lost Winds would really be best described as a prologue. It was a really fun and clever prologue as well, so I'd be happy to check out the follow-ups presuming they build up their premise.

I think they announced it now intentionally and they had the right idea in doing so. I also don't think many people will wait around for the sequel for obvious reasons!

#1.LostWinds is one of only 6-launch titles. It has very little competition and anyone getting WiiWare day one would have likely bought it.

#2.LostWinds visually looks better then all but FinalFantasy making it again stand out and gamers want a game that stands out.

#3.A Lost Winds sequel announced hot on the tail of the origional is going to get it more attention. Because when the sequel is released it won't have the advantage that the origional has had regardless of distribution format Wiiware or disk!.

#4.Any sales loss will be minimal because by know the title has sold enough copies to break even I am pretty sure. Meaning the worst thing that can happen is that the sequel under performs compared to the origional!

In other words I think it was a very smart marketing ploy. Using the origional like a demo to market a sequel. Announcing the sequel so soon they are going to ride the origionals success regardless of whether the sequel is WiiWare or full fledged disk based game!

Why would one hold out on a game for the sequel? Usually people have to play the game first to get interested in the sequel, or at least hear a lot of good things about the first.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs

I'd guess the rationale is that the sequel would be more refined, better-looking, have more gameplay, etc. and, traditionally, a brand new game would cost a lot more so why buy the old model when you could get the new and improved model. But considering nobody yet knows when it's going to come out and that, as others already noted, it's one of only six games on WiiWare now and that it's stupidly cheap none of this actually applies.

Announcing a sequel right after the original game is released grabs attention (it grabbed mine). It adds more value to the game's name and people will recognize it isn't a one-time deal. People wil be happier knowing a sequel is coming instead of having the game's future in limbo.
