I'd guess the rationale is that the sequel would be more refined, better-looking, have more gameplay, etc. and, traditionally, a brand new game would cost a lot more so why buy the old model when you could get the new and improved model. But considering nobody yet knows when it's going to come out and that, as others already noted, it's one of only six games on WiiWare now and that it's stupidly cheap none of this actually applies.
