Forums - Sales - When will see next price cuts for the PS3 and 360 in the USA?

I wonder if anyone knows when the price cuts will appear in the USA for both the PS3 and 360? How much will the price cuts be? Say $50 across the board on all models? I know there will be no Wii price cuts for this year due to supply struggling to meet up with demand.

Please tell me when the price cuts will appear.

NEVER aha no proboly around christmass or not for a long time for the 360 because there addingthe blueray and other shit so it could be a long time... and if they dont lower prices i dont think the ps3 will either

Price cuts would be good. Guess we are waiting for production costs for PS3 and 360 to be reduced and then price cuts will follow.

It is hard to tell, but it is guaranteed that MS will have at least a $50 price-drop to compete with the PS3 again, since it has been outselling it weekly (albeit only by ~10k) in the US.

I would imagine that if Sony were to do another drop it would be another $100 and probably nearer the holidays when Resistance 2 is about to hit. Price-drop and a huge FPS = winning over the US market!

360:

I'll stop trying to predict the timing of Microsoft's price cuts, as they really seem to depend on things we don't know.

For example, most people were expecting a price cut in America before GTA4 in order for the 360 to beat the PS3 soundly there. However, none happened, which lead me to believe that Microsoft was pretty convinced they'd beat the PS3 this month. This didn't happen, so it seems they're basing pricing decisions more on the financial side of things, which is unknown to us.

A 360 price cut in America is long overdue though. The console has been out for very long, and only got a measly $50 price cut!! Compare that with the PS3, which got a 33% / 200 € price cut in Europe in a single move, and America where the price most people pay for a PS3 also decreased by $200 (most people used to pay $600 since the 20 GB model was very rare, now most people pay $400). So there has to be a significant price cut this year, at least $100, I just don't know when exactly.

PS3:

Sony's price cuts seem to have been done due to necessity up to now, the console was selling very badly before it got its price cuts. If this strategy continues, price cuts won't be necessary in 2008. If anything, they'll do a small price cut before Christmas in all regions. Japan is the only place the PS3 might get a big/early price cut this year.

X360 just before GoW2 Launch (i expect 100$ cut across all models): it's doing better than last year so no real need for price cut but the competition is tougher...i also expect a BR x360 to be lauched at at same price of PS3.

PS3 (probably 50$) around the same time as it's doing well and Sony needs to make some money out of HW before slashing prices (I don't see Sony cutting price as long as PS3 continues to sell 30-60k units more than X360 per week: it would be stupid in this situation not to exploit the next 4-5 months to make some profit)

2008 year end sales (made in January 2008):

44.2 M 27.1 M 20.8 M

360 needs a price cut if it wants to keep it's lead over PS3
I think before the holiday season (like in November)

Three options for X360:
1. At the earliest it could be just before MGS4. Don't believe in this though.
2. Fall/before GeoW2. Needless to explain more.
3. If Sony seems to get too far away. They're definitely going to wait this long since they can probably easily afford a price cut.
I'd expect the cut be at least the same as in Europe earlier this Spring. Could be higher though, and in that case they'll be worldwide cuts.

As for the PS3, it's harder to say. Before MGS4? Probably not. Fall? Maybe? Before Christmas? Probably not but who knows. Anyway, it's probably this year but seeing that things are going well for Sony, it's hard to be certain. Could be next year as well. Oh, and the cuts'll be at least $50 and will be worldwide or soon follow in other regions if not at the exactly same moment.

It makes sense to just solely focus on making profits and not care about rival? So offer no price cuts.

I think 360 needs a price cut now, but I don't think we'll see one till Q4
and for PS3, don't really know, maybe Q4 also or next year
