360:

I'll stop trying to predict the timing of Microsoft's price cuts, as they really seem to depend on things we don't know.

For example, most people were expecting a price cut in America before GTA4 in order for the 360 to beat the PS3 soundly there. However, none happened, which lead me to believe that Microsoft was pretty convinced they'd beat the PS3 this month. This didn't happen, so it seems they're basing pricing decisions more on the financial side of things, which is unknown to us.

A 360 price cut in America is long overdue though. The console has been out for very long, and only got a measly $50 price cut!! Compare that with the PS3, which got a 33% / 200 € price cut in Europe in a single move, and America where the price most people pay for a PS3 also decreased by $200 (most people used to pay $600 since the 20 GB model was very rare, now most people pay $400). So there has to be a significant price cut this year, at least $100, I just don't know when exactly.

PS3:

Sony's price cuts seem to have been done due to necessity up to now, the console was selling very badly before it got its price cuts. If this strategy continues, price cuts won't be necessary in 2008. If anything, they'll do a small price cut before Christmas in all regions. Japan is the only place the PS3 might get a big/early price cut this year.
