sony ahs beat MS shipment to retialers now,,,MS has sold at max 300k-500K more to custoemrs ,,so they are rounding it to 1 million,hence i m saying even the 5 million is inflated

He states its 5 million based on each companies latest figures, i.e. their quarterly reports. That would be shipped figures, not sold.

read  the complete paragraph,,It says twice it's sell through(to customers),,,sony hasn't released the quarterly figures  yet so they have no knowledge of that

^it's a big difference, no matter how you look at it. Was there ever a time when you knew for SURE the lead was that close??

Of course not, as far as you've always thought, it's never come down the 6 million.

 Makes sense, ever since the Sony statement and now this Microsoft statement, something seems off about vgchartz number, I'll wait until Sony releases their numbers to make a final judgement on it.

Do you figure they are several million undertracked compared to those other games? Because thats the difference we are talking about here. It is extremely unlikely that God of War is selling anywhere near significant numbers. I doubt Tekken 5 is far off given the sharp decline of the series, and the fact that the numbers seem inline with Tekken Tag. God of War 2 might be slightly over 2 million rather than slightly under. GT4 sold close to 10 million. That is 3 times the best selling of those games, even if we up the sales a bit. They are not even close to the same league.

Well, it could be shipment figures. They probably know beforehand from when it is released. We'll see in a week when Sony releases the data. If it's 14 mil., then we'll know.

Here's the paragraph again. Split up again so you can understand it better.

Today Xbox 360 has a 5-million-unit console sales lead on a global basis based on most recently public reported data from both companies.

This includes more than double the installed base in the US according to actual NPD sell-through and over a 1-million-unit lead across Europe also based on reported sell-through from Chart Track and GfK.

It's clear as day the second part isn't related to the first part as he has to clarify that each of the following numbers are sellthrough, yet does not say the 5 million number is sell through and that he says both companies in the first sentence and the following sentences mention three companies.

I think it is talking about the companies tracking Sony and MS not sony and MS data.


Sure.  They're likely either using revised public projections or something a sony PR head has said in some interview.
