Forums - Sales - The Gap between PS3 and Xbox 360

MS answers with: Bungie drops a 3rd person, graphically stunning Halo Zero trailer on our heads at E3 for release in Fall 09.

MS drops price with the new Jasper chipset.

Sony screws up by: not dropping price as fast as MS. Further delays of everything they've been pimping since last E3. Not getting multiplatforms to run signifigantly better more often on the stronger hardware.

Can't we all just get along and play our games in peace?

i found LTD NPD numbers Canada Jan and March for Wii, and ps3/x360 Jan numbers.
Then just made a little calculations, 10-11% of USA numbers.
And got LTD for March in NA for all 3 consoles. =)

I just discovered that the PS3 launched 50 weeks into the life of the XBox 360 when the 360 had sold around 5 million. Just over 5 million hardware sold in XBox 360's first year is a terrible result.

So it must really be terrible that MS has a lead over 5 million when Sony should have started to close in on that lead from the start.

On Topic:

I find it funny that people think cutting/eliminating the price of Xbox Live will spark bigger HW sales. That would just increase Xbox Live sales if anything. I doubt there are people sitting on the fence saying "if only Xbox Live were free..." I think most feel the only game MS has is Halo and because Halo 3 has released the 360 will now die. Everyone talks about how Sony has all these great games that everyone is going to buy the system for like the 360 won't have any games. I mean it has been crowned the Software King, yet no one feels the new games coming out would entice people to purchase a 360? Do any of you realize the 360 HW sales are higher than last years? If they can get their price down their year over year increase will be even better. Plus If they raise their sales enough to sell on par with the PS3 Sony will never catch them.

Can someone explain to me why every single sony fan thinks that the 360 has little ammo in it?

Gears 2, Ninja Gaiden 2, Fable 2, Banjo 3 is only a glimpse of what we are seeing this year.

I am utterly confused.
Thats your problem right there.  Your assuming they think...........

Why do people say it? Because Ninja Gaiden has NEVER been a system seller on ANY console, the 360 is not a "platforming" console, so Banjo will only sell to the select few that know about it, and Fable isn't a system seller (as it wasn't one for the original Xbox). The only one that will push consoles is Gears, and there's no way to spin that negatively.

Saying that these average/above average games will boost the 360 is like saying Heavenly Sword, Folklore, R&C, EoJ, and Virtua Fighter were going to boost the PS3. Sure, they're decent games, and they will look good amongst those who already own the consoles, but do you really think anyone would shell out $350 for NG2? I know most didn't shell $400 for NG: Sigma. These are the types of games that make the library look good....they're supplementary to the "Big Guns", and not system movers themselves. Just like someone above said about Bioshock and Mass Effect.

And you starcraft....you've got some nerve talking about "thinking" when 2/3 of the stuff you post is utter garbage, whether it be anti-Sony, or pro-M$.....utter garbage

No i don't think anyone will shell out $350 dollers for NG2.

But i do think people will shell out that money when they see NG2, Banjo 3, Fable 2, Gears 2 plus the already huge library of the 360 available at the moment.

It's not going to be about 1 game for the 360, it's going to be about a range of very good ones. If those games don't appeal to the masses, then they will buy something else.

I love how these threads pop up when the PS3 has a big week. The lull during the in-between weeks when the gap is ~30k can get pretty boring sometimes. The PS3 will not maintain a 90k gap, believe that. It will see another spike for MGS4, but that one will also probably drop off just as sharply as their previous spikes have.

I do believe the PS3 will pass the 360 eventually, if only off the strength of the brand name, but it will not happen soon. I predict 2010 at the earliest.

That's kind of like what I said about Folklore, Heavenly Sword, Ratchet, etc. They make the library look good, alongside big games that people buy the system for. I doubt anyone would buy a 360 if it ONLY had Halo on it. But when you toss in games like Forza, Mass Effect, Crackdown, etc. the system looks more attractive because it has a lot of decent, solid games, and when that occurs, that's when the "I'm gonna wait until game X comes out" people decide on a console, because that "game X" will be supplemented with a slew of solid games.

Edit: Which is why I get upset when people who used to say "The PS3 has no games" change it to "Those games aren't EXCELLENT, AAA games!" when referring to this past fall/Christmas lineup. They may have been 80+ games, but when you team that with the likes of GT5:P, MGS4, GTA4, etc., then the library looks really good

ive corrected the above^

Thanks for validating my point

Toasty, just ignore them. BTW, you forgot Splinter Cell: Conviction, Halo Wars, and Too Human on the 360 side.

I honestly don't understand why PS3 owners are so adamant that their 2008 lineup is much stronger than the 360s. I see MGS4, Resistance 2, and a bunch of question marks. The 360 also has a fair share of question marks surrounding its games but it's hard to argue that the 360's lineup isn't more diverse than the PS3s. It's kind of ironic how so many people called the 360 the FPSbox in 2007 and then praise the PS3 for doing the same thing in 2008 while the 360 only has one premiere shooter coming as an exclusive with a huge mix of other genres also flooding the system.

Other than MGS4, I'm far more interested in the 360 lineup. It's diverse and from some pretty good developers (though a lot hangs on Banjo and Too Human not sucking).
