Forums - Gaming - wii fit serious questions...

I consider myself casually hardcore (can I trademark that?), but I will not be getting Wii Fit. I eat healthy, teach Step aerobics twice a week, bike to work about once a week (14.5 miles each way), and lift weights two to three days a week. I don't need an overpriced Blue tooth bathroom scale telling me I'm fat because all it can calculate is BMI. But I do recommend this for everyone else who is a fatty. ;)

Numbers are like people. Torture them enough and you can get them to say anything you want.

I've always wanted to get a little fitter and hopefully lose a little weight so I bought Wii Fit and the wife uses it daily with me - even my brother comes round three times a week to use it.

I know it's not as good as regular gymm use but I dont do that so it's not a fair comparrison and it is better than nothing which is my current workout, with a week and a half I have even bought a bike and started biking to work also.

also - I intend to buy SSBB when it gets launched in UK but i'm not training to beat up an italian plumber.

I will buy it for my gf, but i would buy it anyway, because work doesn't allow me much outside activity anymore, and when i'm working at home i could atleast do some activity in the 10-30 minute breaks. Better some than none IMO.

.

I want to lose some weight, and also I want it for the usage of other games, my mom has been interested in this game since I showed her the wii fit video a while ago.

It just looks plain fun. And it'll be a great way to stay healthy.

I bought it cause I wanted to try something different and was looking forward to doing at least something healthy regulsarly.

Small anecdote: my wife is a completely anti video games. I have all 3 home consoles and the 2 handhelds. I play all of them (GTA4, guitar hero, COD, MKWii, SMG, etc...) and she hates everything with a passion. Part of buying Wii Fit was to see if she would like it. Forced her to try it at first, she wasn't convinced but after 2 weeks now, she is completely into it and plays more than me. Small victory maybe but very impressive in my eyes... Nintendo are definitely on to something!

I guess I'm a casual-core (Sorry Steve, it's already been trademarked... and not by me ) and I want to purchase it because being a video game, it would give me some kind of incentive to actually care for my frail pathetic body.

I'd also get it for my family, as they loved games like Wii Sports and Guitar Hero, and a little Nintendo bird has told me that they just might enjoy this title as well. Plus who knows what the Wii Balance Board (What do they call it now?) will do with games down the road? I'm interested to find out.

I'll buy WiiFit because it offers a new and improvement gameplay experience. It offers control in a way that is far better than any other console game/hardware. The balance board enhances the gameplay of many other games, also.

I am also excited about 1 of the fitness mini-games for purely exercise related reasons. The running games seems like a run way to get some aerobic exercise in the winter when it is too cold to run outside.

Steve3.2:
Why do you think it would tell you that you are fat? How heavy are you? Do you have a BMI above 25? I think that it's rare for people to have a BMI above 25 and not be at least a little overweight. What Wii Fit will suggest you is to get a BMI around 22, which is very moderate, however the program doesn't force it on you. You can set your own weight loss (or weight gain) goals in Wii Fit or just track you weight without setting goals or even skip the daily weight check and just do the exercises and/or games. The software is very versatile.

Oh and I bought the game to have some mini-exercise at home. I'm lifting weights at gym every 3 days, but I want to do something light on the days in between. With Wii Fit I can work out at home with zero traveling time, I can do it as long or as short as I want, as late as I want (my gym closes at 10 pm) and it's more fun than regular cardio training. Those are the major point for me.

I've also set myself a weight loss goal. I want to lose 5 kg. My BMI was a little above 24 today. When I started with Wii Fit last saturday my BMI was closer to 25, so I've already lost something. Wii Fit says I still have 4,2 kg to go.

I do around 30 to 45 min of workout per day (Wii Fit is counting my workout minutes, but not the idle time when I click through the menus) and I split the time evenly between Yoga, Aerobics and Balance. I don't do Strength because that would only spoil my performance at the gym. I don't do Wii Fit on my gym days -- except for the weight tracking.
