Nintendo is not an easy company to analyze. They don't fit the mold of a traditionally successful business at all. In reality, they're a very small company, and license out the production of their hardware to other firms. They don't rely on investors or banks the way that corporations like Sony and Microsoft do. They produce products which don't conform with what has become the norm. And they don't follow the standard production models of large firms at all, instead opting to produce all products so they can be sold at a profit.

In terms of sheer numbers, Nintendo should be getting crushed beneath Sony and Microsoft's collective heel according to the beliefs of many journalists. Sony and MS are huge contenders, with seemingly endless capital and resources available to basically buy the industry, while Nintendo is just this little hole-in-the-wall company hidden away in the heart of Kyoto. And the reason they're not getting crushed, but rather doing the crushing, is because of the very thing that most journalists ignore since it doesn't make for instantly provocative articles: their business plan, their process, is so conservative and effective that it renders the clout of their competitors a non-factor.

GTA came out, it cannot sell more than 17 million because there are not enough users, also people who owned a ps2 but not an xbox360 might buy one just for GTA IV, so what??

It won't affect the Wii in any way.... because it cannot sell 100 million xbox360 or ps3, in order to affect the Wii..... :p

Anyone remember Halo 3? It have more sales on launch than GTA IV could have ever been, and that only for one console, the 360. And what Nintendo react to this? They just ignored it and they say that the game will never affect the lead of Wii to 360.

Few months and holiday sales later the Wii have past the sales of 360 worldwide and it will past the sales of the 360 in america this year.

So you can see, this article is a moot, theres no evidence on this article that this will be ever true. Lets just laugh at this and let the sales do the talking.

No it doesn't if you read the article they suggest that it endangers the Wii's solo dominance. They didn't say anything else. If you read anything into it its your bad not a problem of the article.

A completely valid question. I am pretty sure that GTA WILL make a chink in the Wii's armor, GTA is a mainstream title and will bring quite a few potential or actual Wii owners to 360 or PS3. I don't think that this will result in the end of the Wii or something or even stop its dominance (that needs more) but the article is completely correct and you fail.

That's exactly what I was thinking... If GTA4 fails to "kill" the Wii, why would MGS4 for example? PS3 domination will indeed never begin if that's the case.

Remember, Wii fit still have to release in America and theres still Mario Kart Wii, GTA IV sold 4.5 million copies worldwide in  its launch day with 360 and PS3 combined, Wii fit in Europe sold more than 600, 000 units in 2 days. And thats because Wii fit was already sold out because of limited units on stock.

 

If anything GTAIV will hurt the Wii sales for this month and this month only. Wii Fit did amazing in Japan and Europe and now that Nintendo is trying to reach every single demographic out there and succeeding.

GTAIV is one of the few cards left that the PS360 can pull on the Wii and with still many Nintendo IPs that haven't been used yet, I doubt any game can hurt the Wii.

Final Fantasy XIII isn't gonna be released until late 2010 IMO and by then, the Wii will be too far ahead.

Wii/Nintendo games may not sell the most on day 1, but, tend to sell more before they die out.
