Forums - Sales - Nintendo ups Wii production to 2.4 million.

I haven't noticed if this had been posted yet - i'm sure it hasn't because it's a pretty big deal.

But at their Financial Results report Mr Iwata reported that production will go up to 2.4 million.

The forecast for the financial year only accounts for 2.1 million units so there is an excess 300,000 consoles they will be producing ABOVE their forecast.

If the Wii continues to sell at a sell out rate, this means that 3 million more consoles than they have forecast will sell during this financial year (much like last year) and they are forecasting 25 million for the year so far - therefore 28 million is the typical cap for Wii HW we can see this financial year.

Nicely timed to coincide with the WiiFit explosion. It will be interesting to see how it will perform now, without production issues limiting its sales.

Slide in question:Text associated with slide:

About our forecasts for main hardware and software, we are expecting to ship 28million DS hardware units and 187million DS software units, as well as 25million Wii hardware units and 177million units of Wii software.
To achieve these goals, we are preparing for a Wii production increase so that our monthly Wii hardware production capability will reach 2.4million units in July this year.

This is the 8th entry down from the top of the link. I'm not sure what the hell is up with the slide or how it relates exactly. Either way this is a statement from a Nintendo Official at an Official Nintendo event about Official Nintendo Financial Information....or in other words as official as they come.

To Each Man, Responsibility

I can't believe it is taking them until July to up their production. The last time they increased production was August which is almost year later. That is kind of pathetic it took them so long.

There could e a hundred different factors.  Say the accelerometer company couldn't produce more than 1.8 million units per month.   Or the Wi-Fi chips were only at 1.8 million per month until July.

Foxconn is the company that actually produces the Wii (as well as the PS3 and X360) and they run 24 hours a day 7 days a week 365 days a year.  Upping production can take a very long time if a single component is locked in at a lower preoduction level.

The rEVOLution is not being televised

Hope they do meet Demand with the increase of supply,
and good thing too about increasing it around the time wii fit starts to dominate

This is intended to coincide with two things:

1) The launch of Wii Fit in the States.

2) The imminent release of the Wii in the East, particularly in China.

Also, this assists preparation for Christmas. This allows Nintendo to continue current levels of shipments (about 1.4 million a month) while actually stockpiling for holiday needs.
