Forums - Sony - If indeed PS6 has both a home console and a portable/hybrid SKU, which are you more interested in? (and why)

Which SKU are you more intested in?

Home console 10 58.82%

Portable/hybrid 7 41.18%

The comfort of the couch and a big screen is the only way for me to play, so home console as always.
Whether the PS6 will be affordable or even necessary will be another matter. Maybe wait for a Pro version, see if the prices start to go back to normal as the years go by.
Maybe.

A more hybrid design as a switch allows to put the base unit at a different tv as the normal PlayStation. In a larger household this is a big plus. Plus full portability. With the portal I have connectivity issues if I walk around the house. Since I don’t really expect large jumps to a ps6 home console this can be a good device until a ps6 pro releases and the chip prices hopefully return back to a more normal. Let’s see how much the portable costs hopefully below 700

At this point, I'm only going to buy a PS6 if it's a portable hybrid. I don't see the point in owning a digital-only home console when I have a PC. I'd rather sink the money into upgrading my GPU

Home console. I don't want a portable. I truly hope it's separate and they don't gimp the PS6 just so you can play it on some tiny screen.

Oh wow, a first time poster! Welcome, and thanks for sharing. :)

Thanks for the welcome! Been coming to the main site for ages but only now took a look at the forum 🥲

They do need to have two SKUs with way different power levels if a portable is coming. The portable should be around PS5 (give or take) as a premium portable and at least PS5 Pro level when docked if it is a hybrid too. The traditional home console needs to be a clear leap above PS5 Pro. I know we're getting into diminishing returns and we're in a pricing/memory crisis now and in the future but a PS6 that is only moderately more powerful than PS5 Pro is a waste. If it takes them until 2030 or later to have a generational leap above PS5 and PS5 Pro so be it.

Yeah I'm very comfortable with my base PS5 until 2030 if necessary. As is, the games are still fast, fun, and pretty. Really needs to be a significant upgrade to be worth getting. If by some miracle the the consoles would be cheaper with a longer wait then that's a nice bonus.

ps6 actually being a hybrid would be the funniest thing i think we have ever seen.

I suspect almost everything will be crossgen with PS5 anyway, so the handheld won't be "gimping" anything.

Well also the fact is I don't want to pay for a feature I'm not going to use. I'm guessing them adding a screen/docking system will increase the cost by a few hundred dollars. And I'm still not convinced that making it portable won't hinder the overall power vs solely focusing on a base console.

Portables are more limited in power output than a dedicated console, it's true, it's just that if games are going to be pretty much all be shared with PS5 anyway, that's already going to be "holding it back", as will cost constraints and diminishing returns.

The PS6 handheld will be the only rdna 5 handheld on the market.
