Forums - Gaming - Suppose Your Favorite Gaming Franchise Hits It Big…

Think like Animal Crossing or Red Dead Redemption big: its latest entry has sold tens of millions at full price, and now has a massive online community. How would you feel? Surely that means your favorite franchise is guaranteed to receive care and attention from the devs… but is that really worth it if that just leads to, for instance, needing to wait an entire decade for some AAA cinematic experience? Plus your once niche interest has become mainstream. Though perhaps the more, the merrier?

Give me your thoughts.

Around the Network

Depends; if a series I love that is niche, such as say Starfox or Xenoblade, made it big in a way that retained the things I loved about it, then I'd be happy.

However, the risk here is that broadening an IP's reach to appeal to a mainstream audience often means dumbing it down for the masses, and in the process losing the qualities that make it great.

Regarding dev times, anything over 5 years is too much IMO.

It finally did, with Breath of the Wild.

Beath of the Wild made my favorite franchise hit it big.

Fuck no.

It's equivalent of that modern curse "I hope your favorite book gets adapted by Netflix".
