My first console was the NES and I got it when I was 12 years old. I honestly don't know if I'd say it has been fully surpassed. Like @Liquid_Laser said, witnessing the impact that system had first hand is hard to describe. For me, it's the only pre-16-bit retro console that's still super fun to play today (and Master System, to a much lesser extent) and definitely part of my holy trinity of game systems:

NES - Most groundbreaking gaming library. Nothing will ever beat it on that level. 1st and 3rd party beast.
SNES - Most polished and timeless gaming library. Also a 1st and 3rd party beast.
Switch - Incredible concept and outstanding 1st party games, with tons of arcade and console classics available for it.

My favorite childhood console was SNES (I got a PS1 and N64 when I was adult.) The Switch 2 has surpassed it, partly because I can play much of Nintendo’s legacy on it, including the SNES.

Nope. Vic 20/C64 & NES for me have been surpassed many times.

My top tier of consoles includes Switch/Switch 2, Wii, DS, PSX, SNES. I combined Switch 2 with Switch because the newer console completely replaces it making it better in every single way (the original Switch is now obsolete), Switch 2 even improves the game visuals and loading times of the older Switch’s games by stabilizing frame rates, reducing pop-up, and displaying Switch games in handheld mode to 1080p instead of 720p. The magnetic joycon connection is vastly superior and more stable than a well-worn old rail connection on the original Switch (it would disconnect if I moved too erratically after my first few years of use, and I wasn't able to fix it).

So, right now, Switch 2 is my alltime favourite console, particularly because it has most of my favourite games of all time on it: still missing some of my very favourite games including Xenogears and Chrono Trigger.

Personally I think it would be very, very hard for a console to top the SNES in my mind.

As I say, Switch 1 did come close, but even then the lack of an all-new Donkey Kong or Mario Kart and the less comprehensive third party support (it still did have a lot of good third party games, just not as many as the SNES) did hold it back just a little, even if it's a stellar console overall.

SNES just has so many stone cold classics, and with how much longer games take to make today and how hard it is to break new ground now compared to the 90s gives the SNES a near unassailable advantage compared to any modern console, for me anyway.
