I've never had an Xbox but my bf got an Xbox One back in like 2015, a One X after that and finally a Series X shortly after it launched before switching to PC in 2023.

I had an Xbox 360, got RROD, fixed it myself(I worked in computer repair for a long time, so this was pretty simple). Ended up preferring the PS3’s exclusives more. While I had an Xbox One X, I only played 5 games on it and then sold it. Tried PC gaming, but I just didn’t enjoy all of the small issues and variations. Since then I’ve owned a PS4, PS4 Pro, Switch, PS5, PS5 Pro, Switch 2. Very glad modern consoles have pushed towards more standard components, that are easier to develop for. Xbox 360 was ok on those terms, but the PS3 was a nightmare.

I have always owned multiple consoles, but I did have my preferences. In gen 6, Xbox was always my console of choice when it came to online gaming and multi-platform games due to it having superior hardware and superior online play. In gen 7, Xbox 360 was my go-to because it was just the better platform, RROD notwithstanding. Most multi-platform games ran better on it, it had a great UI, Xbox Live was leagues better than PSN, and most of it's exclusives up until Kinect really spoke to me.

It wasn't until Donny's TV, TV, and more TV (oh and by the way, DRM, anyone?) nonsense that I jumped off board. I got back on around 2016 or so, when the system and UI was redesigned, but it was never my preferred console of choice. That would be the Wii-U, followed by PS4.

To add he had a 360 first, I forgot about that. For the question being able to get better visuals and FPS, access to the games that are only on PC, play more games with me, the ability to use mods and in general having far more control compared to a locked down platform. Mods in particular has been a huge one since he loves COD Zombies and BO3 in particular has tons of fan made maps and whatnot.

He actually created his own BO3 map that was pretty well received and should release a 2nd one at some point. Also he wasn't intending to fully switch over initially when he got his first proper PC but liked the benefits so much that the Series X has only really been used for stuff like playing Blu-rays for years at this point though he got a dedicated 4K BD player early this year so it might get sold within the next year since it has become an appreciating asset.

So you ended up getting an Xbox One/Series then?

I got an Xbox One, yes. I never got the current gen, though. I went with PS5.

Still got the XBone under the TV. The hard drive space on the Series X didn’t impress me, so I thought I’d wait until the premium version of the Box was released.

Experience with the 360 and PS3 taught me to expect a larger hard drive at a lower price by the midpoint of the cycle. “I am a genius.” I thought to myself. “I can save a lot of money by filling up that drive with a library of discounted games.” Well, we all know how THAT turned out.

So I’m committing fully to the PC. But I’m still a console player at heart, so I’m going to rig it to the television and play from the couch.
