They can implement (most of) those without raising the price, sure... but then you can also forget about using it as a handheld, as the battery will get drained in under and hour. The additional cores and especially more memory will not be possible without a price hike however. Ever checked how much you pay for memory these days? Hint: over 3x as much as when the Switch 2 launched. And TSMC is steadily increasing the wafer costs, which also affects chip prices. Even just going to 16GB RAM instead of 12GB and adding 2 more cores would push the price easily above $600 (upcoming price hike included) right now. |
I guess there is some kind of misunderstanding, since I didn't explained in details the improvements that can done for Switch 2. Nintendo can for sure allow 1 more CPU core to be used in games if necessary. This won't decrease battery life by any noticable margin. They can reduce the amount of allocated RAM for the system and related processes, something like 720 MB would be sufficient. Another thing is that they can include a couple minutes of clock boosts let's say up to 15% when frame rates are lower than certain threshold. The boosted clocks can be activated for very short time and would need a break period too. That would reduce battery life, but not that much, since they can keep optimizing the software to use less power.
Another thing that can do is to release an update for DLSS with Nvidia's help. This would probably be released after DLSS 5 launch, but image quality would be better than DLSS 3 based versions for sure. By doing that a lot of hardcore gamers would be happier and performance in games would be noticably improved too. The Switch 2 version with SOC in 4nm process would gain a lot from those optimizations.
