It’s reported that PS6 already costs over a thousand to manufacture so you’re looking at a $1200+ system minimum. PS5 sales have collapsed at half that. The PS6 will sell out on launch like all consoles do but after that, it likely won’t outsell the Vita.

I see a decline in the traditional regions NA, Europe and Japan. But it is hard to see what other regions are going to do.

If Sony can truly break into markets like China or India, just through the sheer size of the population it has potential for many many million consoles more.

I will not buy it on launch, and not even the first 3 years.
Maybe in its 4 year...

Just had a thought. Usually when the next new shiny box arrives, trade in the old one to get some discount.

with PS6 presumably not having a disc drive, can't trade in the PS5 for physical games owners.

This will certainly hurt its sales potential.

I agree. Digital only consoles have just never been very successful. Im sure Sony would be the company who can sell the most digital only consoles, but yeah, its not reaching above 50M.

Not just this but there won't be any physical 2nd-hand copies sitting in game stores tempting people to buy the new console.

"Oh wow! Look at all these physical PS6 games for $30 each! It's been 2 years since the system launched, and I could get all these games for cheap. I'll buy one!"

I hope it sells half of that.

Gotta send a message.

Can we wait before the PS6 is officially revealed before making lifetime sales predictions lol?

Things looking as they are now...it may be even less than that.

I get that with slower growth and higher costs you need to increase profit margins...but it seems to me that all the desicion they're making and the things they're cutting...they are going to upset of all the highets spending, more fidelized share of the userbase.

I assume we also count the upcoming portable as part of the PS6 family? Which should broaden the appeal and come in at a lower price.

I do think Sony is in a tough spot, but I do expect that memory prices will eventually come back down to some extent, and I definitely do expect more than 50M lifetime between the stationary and handheld hardware.
