To put things in perspective, here is the Series S version:

Even here, on hardware with more raw juice than Switch 2, the compromises are very evident

To be fair, the Series S has a 60-fps mode that is close to locked.  And the 30-fps mode seems rock solid.  Kind of similar to Pragmata and RE9, the S2 puts out a similar picture quality, but the Series S has a clear advantage in fps.

The Series S's CPU advantage allows for it to push for 60, but the problem here is that the graphics side of things struggles to keep up, with extremely blurry visuals. It's nice that its an option, but without a good upscaling solution, it does show hard limits.

Agreed.  If the series s had fsr 4 or dlss 3, oh boy, it would be a great proposition.

I think max settings doesn't really scale much beyond PS5. It seems the main problem with the PS5 version was the image quality which seemed to be an issue with upscalling (I imagine you used DLSS or FS2/3?). Performance wise I think it just struggled in combat when alpha effects were filling the screen (GPU). A lot of it's tech issues like pop-in/poor textures/bad animations/poor lighting are also in the PC version. It's not necessarily a bad performer

I think my expectations for Rebirth were low, but FF16 run god awful.  Christ I couldn't get my 4090 to hit 120 fps at 1440p.  So I expected Rebirth issues and was pleasantly surprised when my rig killed it with ease, even when I doubled NPCs in Kalm, 120 fps locked.

Edit

and yes, the biggest advantage the S2 has is upscaling.  The ps5 and xbox are garbage at upscaling.  Sony and MS were shortsighted on this element.

Yeah FF16 is a significantly more demanding game, I remember even when I played it on PS5 the performance mode was blurry.

91 GB for a demo

Yeah even on Switch 2 it took up 45GB of my storage; I daresay the final game may the biggest game on the system yet; I believe Remake is currently at around 90GB.

Also, we have to remember the OG release has performance, pop-ins and shadow problems even on PS5. All things considered, this seems like a pretty good port.

Does it? I haven't noticed anything but I can be pretty oblivious to such things. Lucky, I guess.

It sure did. Even after the patches, it's still an unstable game on the base PS5. Nothing major, but it still has a decent amount of pop-ins and shadowing issues.

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

One suggestion to help improve motion in the game is to go into settings and reduce the camera sensitivity. It's very sensitive by default, which doesn't blend well for its 30fps frame cap & lack of motion blur to interpolate between the panning

Well I think it is official. switch 2 third parties support is really good. the best support since SNES

I feel like playing this again, on hard this time. It's incredible. The combat system may be my favorite of all time.
