Forums - Gaming - Which 3D 6th gen games have aged the most gracefully visually in your view, and why

Agree with pretty much every game mentioned so far. Would also add Luigis Mansion, Pitfall: The Lost Expedition, Wario World and Mega Man X: Command Mission.

Luigi's Mansion and honestly a lot of GBA games. Sprite art is just so visually appealing to me...makes me wish AAA devs would consider revisiting the artstyle more often. Sonic Mania, for example, continues to stand as one of my favorite platformers of all time.

Yeah Luigi's Mansion is a great call, holds up remarkably well for being a launch title and Nintendo's first game with 6th gen technology.

I know you prefer originals.  But many LM, upscaled with 4k texture pack...  pretty damn impressive, even today.

rtx 4090, 32 gb ram, i7-13700k

Switch 2

The Dead or Alive titles on Xbox were nice to look at (in more ways than one...) due to keeping things clean and crisp, avoiding heavy use of normal maps, and maintaining a high framerate.

I think the Street Fighter Alpha series, especially on Saturn, have held up well.

They have indeed; that's actually the reason I specified 3D games, cos 2D stuff tends to age better, so I thought it'd make things more interesting.

Any video games contains cel-shading graphics (Cel Damage, XIII, JSR and JSRF), quite realistic ones (Black).
Burnout 3, Revenge AND Dominator looks still fine. NFS Underground and U2.
Sonic Heroes I guess (?) and Super Mario Sunshine.

Black was a banger; despite being semi-realistic it had enough of a sense of style that it holds up pretty well

Rogue Leader and Rebel Strike still look great to me. The Death Star, the Star Destroyers, running around the AT-AT's legs on Hoth, the entire Battle of Endor.

The Ratchet and Clank and Sly Cooper games still look good.

Final Fantasy 10 and 12, though 12 maybe to a lesser extent since its larger environments mean more 'seams' show.

Ultimate Spider-Man really nailed the comic-book aesthetic, and the faces of the actors in Batman Begins still impress me today.

I think Conker Reloaded might be the best-looking OG XBox game in this day and age.

Yeah Conker and the Rogue Squadron games are stunners, really pushed their hardware to the max.

Ikaruga. Still one of the best looking games ever to me. Originally on Dreamcast. The art direction is top. Still one of the best games in the genre. Also kind a fun fact in stage 2 you fly over a city. This is iconic in the shmup genre. Nier Automata mech designs and it's flyover of the city in it's shmup section was a love letter to Ikaruga.
