Mario Maker 3 - 2026

Next 3D Mario - 2027

Next 2D Mario - 2029

Would probably work. The other tell is Mario Maker 2 seemingly doesn't have any content adds on Switch 2, like you would think they could add mouse controls to it for example ... unless they don't want to because MM3 is going to utilize that feature and it's coming soon-ish.

Definitely don't think we're getting Mario Maker 3 this year. Mario Wonder was finished only 3 years ago, and Nintendo needed 4 years to pump out Mario Maker 2 (which wasn't a major upgrade on the original). Nintendo is likely taking their sweet time with it. Just gotta be patient... Nintendo is not a developer known to rush projects. Mario Wonder was entirely void of deadlines, after all.

Well, we now know that Splatoon Raiders is coming about two thirds of the way through July, but haven't heard of anything else new from Nintendo.

I believe the Mario Maker team and the Mario Wonder team are largely different groups of people even though it's EPD Group 10 (Tezuka oversees both groups), so one doesn't necessarily count the other out, though I think even if it was the exact same people working on both they could probably easily make a new Mario Maker game in 3 years time. The previous two games already give them a wealth of features to quickly port into the new game and then you just have to build up from there and work in the Switch 2's mouse-con controls, which should be easy enough.

It would also follow the same pattern as the first Mario movie in April 2023, and then a new Mario platformer (Wonder) in fall. Well this time they weren't able to get a new 2D or 3D game done for 2026, but a Mario Maker game would be the next best thing and probably a lot easier to make.

2027 will likely be the year for the new 3D Mario platformer, so not sure if they want to also have a Mario Maker in that year, if you push it further out that gets you to 2028 ... but that's 9 years from Mario Maker 2, that's quite a huge and probably too long of a gap.

I mean to me it would make a lot of sense, but we'll see if it pans out or not. There is a leaker who's saying Mario Maker 3 is coming this year for Switch 2 but how reliable that is, who knows.

This’ll be interesting to see play out. Reminds me a whole lot of what happened with the 3D All Stars release back in September 2020.

Nate’s very confident, though I personally question whether Nintendo would legitimately consider moving the release date in response to the leak. It might sound crazy, but let’s not forget about the Star Fox Robot Chicken TV series that was canned last minute in response to leaks. It’s highly unlikely as partnerships operate under very different conditions than a company unanimously producing a product they’ve poured a ton of R&D into.

I've got every digit crossed for this to be legit, Starfox was literally the game that made me a gamer, way back in 1994, and we haven't had a good one since I was a kid.

Anybody who saw the movie should be confident. I don't find the SF prediction much of a prediction. Nintendo made it blatantly obvious in Galaxy movie.

I really have strong doubts that Nintendo would drop a reveal as major as a brand new Star Fox one day before the Golden Week starts— press coverage is slow (since most journalists are out of office at the time) and people will be occupied with travel/vacation, not keeping up with the latest headlines.

That said: I’m not sure when we should expect this game to be revealed. I could definitely see a shadow drop in June if we’re talking a smaller-scope release intended solely to test the water of market interest in a brand new Star Fox (likely dropped alongside a Direct). But it’s anybody’s guess.

A French journalist who Nate has lended credence to has stated that the game will have be “online multiplayer focused,” which Nate did not corroborate but also did not deny. Could be that we’re looking at another F-Zero 99 situation on our hands— a pleasant surprise ruined by sky-high expectations created by a leak.

Well, that would make it a pass instead of a day 1, for me.  My god that would be such a massive disappointment.

I'd be ok with a Star Fox 99 if its using the N64-era visuals, SNES is rough. I think it'll probably be more substantial than that though, something like that would appeal to (frankly) old people only and not younger people coming out of the Mario Galaxy movie.

NO WAY!! Star Fox is real! Never doubted Nate, not even for a second. Didn't expect a shadow drop of a direct on a random Wednesday though LOL!

In even bigger news: Ocarina of Time Remake is all but confirmed. Ooh man H2 is gonna be crazy for Nintendo. You guys on PS5/XBSXS have fun with your GTAVI and Fable, I'll be playing Ocarina for the first time AND in 4k (probably).
