Forums - Gaming - Move aside Pokemon and Palworld, here comes Pickmon

Man they copied the homework without even changing the answers a little bit.

So let's see...

Rip off of Pickachu
Rip off of skydiving in TotK.
Rip off of Moltres.
Rip off of Link.
Rip off of the glider mechanic in BotW.
Rip off of the motorcycle.

Palworld has some pretty bad ripoffs. Specifically, Anubis, who is just Lucario with different colors and clothing.

You do know Anubis was a Egypitan god from thousand years ago and a humanoid with a wolf mask/head is what is was depicted as, right?

Pokémon did not invent Anubis, and many of their designs are based on real life animals, objects and figures too...

Curl beat me to it but Palworld's Anubis model is not only Anthropromophic below the neck (unlike actual Anubis, who is a man below the neck), but it's the exact same 3D model as Lucario, with altered clothes/coloration.

Come on man, there are countless other ways to render the character of Anubis, the one they chose is pretty much an exact clone of Lucario just with retouched colours and clothing, it's clearly intentional plagiarism.

Even if he was made on top of the actual Lucario 3D model I still would disagree with you. Looking at it doesn't make me thing about Lucario at all, it makes me think about Anubis and Egypy, that design is 100% ok.

Edit: @Cerebralbore101 just saw your reply, take the above as my reply to you too, but I'll add a little more, Anubis like many other mythological figures has countless different interpretations and I can find many different ways it is depicted in modern fantasy that match the Palworld design very well, the clothes, the accesories, all of it is designed to make it resemble Egypt and Anubis and I wouldn't even think about Lucario without you guys telling me.

Unlike with what we see going on with the game in this thread, it immediatly makes me think of the exact figures they are clearly ripping off.

Not sure about anyone else thinks on this forum, but Palworld is a really good game and has a lot that sets it apart from Pokemon.

Pikmin... i mean Pickmon, honestly looks like a Palworld expansion that just stole a bunch of assets. If you told me this was a palworld expansion I would have believed you.

Absolutely agree.  Pal is a completely different game than Pokémon.

So even if they went into 3DS Max and traced over Lucario's model, that is okay in your eyes? By that logic, I should be able to rip Scorpion's sprite from MK3, change the color palette, so he's wearing a dark brown costume, and it's not ripping anything off. Right? And I should be able to take Snake from MGS3, change his texture colors to pink, give him a sombrero, and that's okay too, right?

They can use anything as a base as long as the product they are selling does not use code they don't own or designs they didn't create. They created their own design, it looks like what it was supposed to look, so unless Gamefreak code is being used by them, that is completely okay, yes.

Nothing about that makes me think about Lucario, they clearly weren't trying to ripoff Lucario image, or failed terribly at it, if even a fan since gen 1 like me doesn't think that it evokes it at a first glance.

When I look at this trailer however I can clearly see Charizard, Pikachu, Meganium, and many more, for example, that was clearly made with the intent of ripoff their images. Those things are completely different, IMO.

Inspiration or using other stuff as base is completely normal and everyone does it, Gamefreak has a lot of inspiration on the work of others as well.

This game screams "Hey! Look at me! LOOK AT ME! Pay attention to ME"

The serpentine flying thing is basically a Giratina+Rayquaza mix
