While I haven’t quite forgiven them for their disgraceful remake of Shadow of the Colossus (and from what I understand, Demon’s Souls is a similar situation) this is sad news nonetheless.

What a waste.

Could have used them as a remaster/remake studio to make remasters/remakes of older games and lesser IPs such as Jak and Daxter, Gravity Rush, Ico, etc.

You mean their glorious remake of Shadow of the Colossus?

Pre-Sony, their work on Titanfall on 360 was an iconic "impossible port" and the first time I heard of them.

I have their remake of Shadow of the Colossus in my backlog, but that's an embarrassing 50 games at this point so it may be a while til I get around to playing it' from footage online though it does look excellent to me, I'm not a purist so I don't mind some artistic license taken, especially when the original, while inspired, was kinda rough in some ways.

No! It’s the great video game replacement, where a new team of developers completely changes the visual expression of the original work without bringing anything new and meaningful to the experience. They don’t understand that the constraints the original was made under is an important part of the art. The atmosphere and experience of playing the 2018 version will never be equal nor superior to playing the original, just like watching a replica of Mona Lisa won’t be the same as seeing the original.

The existence of the remake alone may be inoffensive at best, had Sony actually decided to make the original easily available. They have not.

I prefer the remake of colossus and demon. Both are superb.

The only notable thing in the remake that was toned down was the protagonist "demonification" being made a lot subtle, and it was a nice visual clue of what was about to come. It is still present, but it's not as easy to notice if you didn't know about it.

The atmosphere was great as it was in the original. The sky and mostly sterile land still passes a great isolated and misterious feeling as it did before.

They even added the little coins to unlock a small bonus in the castle.

I've not played the remake of Demon's Souls yet but that one do feel like it lost a lot of its atmosphere compared to the original, even as the game is now gorgeous and looks like it performs well.

I think the remake of Shadow of the Colossus was near perfect, but even as I haven't played the remake of Demon's Souls yet it does look like it lost some of its charm to me, sadly. It doesn't look nearly as dark and suffocating as the original, and I personally loved the slower gameplay of the original too, putting up a shield and feeling hopeless against some enemies, like the rolling skeletons, was such a glorious experience in the original lol.

The intro area was lighter but the dark areas like latria are still dark. Games is fantastic

The GAAS was cancelled, and I guess they couldn't get on the same page for a full new game. But surely there was a remake project they could have taken up lol. Bloodborne for example.

Shame.

Thank fuck they were shut down before they butchered Bloodborne just like they butchered Demon's Souls.

I think this is a pretty shit thing from Sony to do, after Sony realised they fucked up with the GAAS stuff they should have given them a chance to make their own ip and then if that failed fair enough.

All this is is just more proof that Sony are losing the plot and a shadow of their former selves. The PS5 is easily the worst gen they've ever done, not even close.
