Makes me nervous for the likes of Bend Studio, Media Molecule, and, to a much lesser extent, Haven Studios.

Don't forget Bungie. They're about to release Marathon.

Heaven was bought out because it was making another GAAS game (which is btw another project not going well from recent news) and was part of jimmy boy's little plan to turn Playstation into a GAAS machine. They could have left the studio be independent and spent that money to fund more game that their player base have been ripping them a new one and asking for.

This whole GAAS obsession they have and everything to do with it has amassed massive hate from the gaming community (just look at the new horizon online game they announced), you best believe the internet will celebrate when they see it go down in flames plus the fact that HAVENS Fairgame$ project is already hated and are already thrown in as another "slop" that no one asked for from the trailer.

Hate to break it to you, but the gaming community online is literally one of the worst communities to interact with. Look at the reactions to GoY or Intergalactic because of female leads. You think they won't be shitting on Horizon 3 lol?

And Sony did spend money under Jim Ryan to fund single player games like Rise of the Ronin, Stellar Blade, Astro Bot, Sons of Sparta, and Kena: Scars of Kosmora. The problem is the hardcore community is much harder to please than the average fan. The fact the Internet is willing to criticize publishers about layoffs or closures, but then root on multiplayer developers losing their jobs, is hypocritical and makes these kinds of discussions meaningless.

I could do the same with Santa Monica for instance, and root for them to fail because "they are creatively bankrupt and rely too much on God of War," or Insomniac because "they do so much Marvel slop." I guess it's alright to root for Marvel Tokon to fail because its live service slop served mixed with Marvel slop, and Arc System Works deserve to get shut down because of it. Sony also needs to consider shutting down Polyphony because they turned a traditional single player experience like Gran Turismo into live service slop. That's going to teach them!

Why keep the Demon Souls and Bloodborne IPs then? Give those back to From Software already!

Give back? Those were always owned by Sony.

The Souls genre only exist because of Sony to begin with, and its funnier than Shuhei Yoshida, one of the best leaders Playstation had, actually thought Demon's Souls was a bad game.

I'm with him tbh lol. Extremely polarising games that I think a huge portion of gamers wouldn't get. Demon Souls wasn't exactly a huge hit in its OG incarnation but I'm glad the series found its audience and succeeded

I'm sure we will discover down the road that The Legend of Dragoon Remake was a project pitched by Bluepoint to Sony in their last months before closure, which was denied, just to add salt to this wound.

Shu always had a good eye for games but he definitely screwed on that one, From Software and the whole Souls series could have been part of Sony since the PS3 gen if he had faith in it.

Looking at it now it's great it didn't happen tho, as From Software could also be on the chopping block or not even existing anymore by now.

I understand a hard game like it would be hard to please everybody, specially during that specific generation, but calling it a bad game... he was out of his mind xD

My theory is Bluepoint pitched Bloodborne remake and Sony fired them on the spot for the audacity.

I said this in the comments of the article but this sucks for the BP employees but it's probably good news for the gaming companies based in Austin who can scoop up the talent.

Retro Studios looking for this opportunity right now

Ok, what a funny coincidence

It is a shame but Sony does not need them PS5 sales are doing well.
