Forums - Sony - Sony is shutting down Bluepoint Games

Tagged games:

Souls is my second favorite franchise in gaming, i have beaten every single game in the series at least 8 times each. I love the Remake of Demon, I find the nitpicking grossly overblown. I will play the remake was more often than the original, the 60 fps by itself makes it worth it. Demon remake is fantastic, far superior to the original.

edit

The remaster of Dark Souls 1 is easily the laziest, IMO.  The framerate is stable and the resolution is nice, but christ those textures are garbage and the lighting desperately needs an update.  Too many of the sections the player can't see more than 3 feet in front of their face, drives me crazy.

Apparently Bluepoint pitched a Bloodborne remake before being shut down:

Some fans will be really sad if FromSoftware is not working on it themselves, they were really so close, but it was denied to them.

I love Bloodborne but I don't think it needs a remake right now. It is far from one of the best looking PS4 games, but I really don't think it needs one already, a remaster would be faster and good enough.

Horizon Zero Dawn got quite a good upgrade with the remaster on PS5.

Fair.  4k at 60 fps would be perfect, maybe some better lighting.  A remaster would work fine.

When that didn't work they tried to pitch another SoTC.

Just ridiculous they wasted time on that idea.

Remake of SotC was missing many animations and facial expressions. Remake of DS lost the atmosphere. Too colorful and shiny. Saying "butchered" is hyperbolic. See Yakuza 3 remake for a butcher job.

Bite my shiny metal cockpit!

"In recent days, as Bluepoint’s former staffers hunted for jobs and tried to figure out what was next, other companies were making phone calls to see if there might be a way to salvage the studio elsewhere, according to people familiar. The prospect may be unlikely, but Bluepoint’s technical expertise remains respected across the industry".

Honestly would love if they were able to be picked up by another publisher, ideally Nintendo (think it's a great fit for Zelda/Metroid and support on Xenoblade/Pokemon).

I assume though much of the talent is going back into Sony

Such crazy mismanagement from Playatation. I put emphasis on PlayStation because they should have the experience to properly direct an inexperienced studio.

GOW Live service shouldn't of been greenlit, especially not from such an inexperienced studio given how demanding and complex live service is.

Sony have a whole catalogue of games with the potential to update/upgrade. A Jack and Daxter remake/reboot would of been right down their alley and it would fit comfortably in Sonys family/adventure catalogue (Ratchet/Astrobot).

We still don't know the nuances but it sounds like they were just left to their devices and then Sony was unsatisfied with what they came up with. Was there a project Playstation suggested/wanted them to work on?

It's like they never had a plan for them to begin with. If their plan was for the studio to create original content, that content would of have to start small.

And their tech is crazy good. Both of their remakes are amongst the best looking games on their respective platform

Why would Nintendo need them for work they are very easily, and cheaply, able to do with their current teams?

Bluepoint may have high level expertise, but do you need them if you can get the work done for cheaper from other companies, example Metal Gear Solid 3 remake?
