There are also rumours the ps6 will be able to play all previous ps systems from dics with a ai emulator.

I would spend even a 1000bucks if thats true

I saw something about this rumors.

This would be huge for Playstation; they would become the only console capable of playing games from the 5th to the 10th generation through backward compatibility.

Ofc this is the cliche of" i know someone who knows someone" but a friend of mine works at Guerrilla Games and he told me they are indeed working on a ai emulator.

still a rumour thou, nothing else deff dont take my word for it.

Price aside, I don't think the market is ready for it anyway.

Focus on a portable which soft launches some of PS6 features

2026 feels like what 2018 was for the PS4. Things are finally well oiled and quality, anticipated software is flooding in. 2028 should be the earliest they'd consider releasing.

To be fair, that's never really stopped Sony before. The PSX, PS3, and PS5 all launched at least a couple of years before they lifted off the runway. In fact, I specifically recall PS3 not even being considered a "current gen" but rather a "next gen console" for a good 3 years at least (probably closer to 4) .

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

I'm hearing the PS6 could be a portable-console hybrid like the Switch 2...

The rumour is two systems. Codename Canis that is a handheld/hybrid and Orion which is the home console.

Canis: 16 CU's RDNA5, 24GB Ram, 4x Zen6c and 2x Zen6 LP cores.

Orion: 52 CU's RDNA5, 30GB Ram, 7x Zen6c cores and 2x Zen6 LP cores.

The only saving grace is that Sony's rumored chip for the PS6 is like ~279-280mm^2.
Compared to the rumored Xbox one at ~410mm^2.

However if they are really aiming for 30gb of ram, that thing is still gonna cost a bit.
Get ready for a ~800$ PS6 and a ~1300$ Xbox Magnus.

I don't know if the PS6 will be delayed, but one thing I'm almost certain of is that the Switch 2 will go up in price, according to what I heard at my local store. The online service too. My boss was saying that on the phone starting in April. But take it with a grain of salt.

Damn, I'm happy I already got mine. How much price increase we are talking about ?

Unpopular opinion: I honestly wouldn't mind the PS6 was delayed until Switch 3 lol

Sony typically supports each gen for like 10yrs, what's another like 3 more years lol. I feel like the PS5 has barely been tapped, and with the crazy prices on tech and economy, the PS5 can stay running along with the Switch 2 since they're now on similar grounds for graphics and power. I think more people just want lots of new games now that can actually push the PS5, rather than a new system. And if people can wait this long for GTA6, then I'm sure they can wait a bit longer for PS6. And with this extra time sticking to this gen, Sony can release a true slim PS5 and offer an actually good price drop. Remember when Playstation systems went as low as $199-$299, lets bring that back!

Also, this way Sony and Nintendo's next system can come out roughly the same time and will reset the generation battle and we don't have to try and decided which gen is Nintendo's system in line with lol

I would expect at least $50.  At first I thought Nintendo should have went 16 gb, but in hindsight going 12 gb was probably smart.

Damn Nintendo makes us play shity Graphic games for an eternity ffs.

If this happens Sony's portable machine will hold Graphics back and we will have a PS5 generation for another 7-8 years.

I don't want to play games when i am out of house, when i am out i have business to do.

Don't force portable gaming Graphics on people that just want to play games on their home.

This is very outdated thinking, games are extremely scalable now.

You will not get "portable gaming graphics" on the home console because a handheld exists.

I don't know how it is possible to downscale a 30 teraflop game to a 2 teraflop machine without compromise the game itself.

If the article is right 2027 is the current target but with how things are looking the market will probably still be pretty fucked by November that year so a delay would make a lot of sense though I do hope it's 2028 cause 8 years would already be pushing it with no new console. Way, way better RT and upscaling capabilities is gonna do wonders for the PS6.

Another thing is when the PS6 comes up as a topic there's generally a lot of people saying there's no "need" for it to release anytime soon which is strange since there doesn't have to be a need. 2027 would be completely fine without the current market situation since the PS5 should be supported long into the life of the PS6. It's not like there's a need for new smartphones to release every single year but it's good that they do so that people who want the cutting edge can always have it.

Nobody needs new hardware, the graphics of today are more than good enough for any kind of game today. PS5 and Switch 2 are more than good enough for their use cases for several more years. They could release a PS6, but it would have virtually no exclusive games for years, so it would be basically a PS5 Pro Pro and most people don't even want a PS5 Pro.

AI will eventually replace the entire graphics pipeline anyway and just make environments/characters based off of photo/video reference and people won't care after that because you can have photorealism if you want it (or cartoony CGI), the end of traditional graphics hardware is I think is near is coming within 6-10 years. And yeah, you probably will not own any of that hardware, you will pay to essentially rent it.

We're getting close to the end of traditional hardware cycles.

That's why I think Nintendo should just ride out the Switch 2 and have a Switch 2 Pro later to extend its product cycle through 2033 or 2034 or so. By then, AI generated visuals will be the norm and you'll just jump straight to photoreal, no point in wasting time with that PS6 physical hardware range.

Whether this is good or not I don't know. But I ain't looking to buy a PS6 until 2030 earliest most likely.
