Forums - Microsoft - I bought a Xbox 360

Tagged games:

So yeah, it's my first own Xbox console. I used to play on a friend's 360 back in the day but not that many times.

I got a Xbox 360 S, a 250gb Kinnect bundle, says it's from March 2012, it's obviously used but it looks pretty decent, the box is decent on the outside and has everything inside.

I got some games with it and ordered a lot of others online, got many of the Forza's, pretty much all of the Gears of Wars, a few Halo's and Alan Wake, many did not ship to me yet tho, and some might not even work, so I'll be testing them.

I can't get connected to Xbox Live for some reason, and I dunno why, maybe it just doesn't work anymore? Some of the games I got, which include some Xbox One games I can't really play yet, have some codes and I would like to try to redeem them tho, even as they are all likely either expired or used, as those are old used games.

So, anyway, any notable hints of recommendations from games mostly stuck on the original 360 or OG Xbox to keep an eye? I will be trying to look for Lost Odyssey but it's going to be hard to find it here physically and not costing a modern game price.

BTW: the Kinnect small screen on the bottom right is supposed to be a really shitty quality display in black and white? Because that's how it is here, lol.

Around the Network

You're in for a treat, terrific console.

The 360's online service has been shut down though I believe, as far as why it won't connect to XBL.

As far as games stuck on 360 that are worth checking out, I would recommend:

- Condemned: Criminal Origins

- Ace Combat 6

- Project Gotham Racing 3 and 4

- Dead or Alive 4

- Splinter Cell Conviction

I got an Xbox 360 for myself in 2023 after playing some of its family member's consoles before.
I haven't fired mine up in 2026 yet but online should still be available for some games. It's a pretty small list though, considering. Online features and logins frequently struggle.
Basically, if you want to play offline single player and multiplayer games you are covered. If you're set on syncing achievements to Xbox Live easily or playing more than a handful of major games online, you're out of luck.
If you enjoy your Xbox 360 enough, get an Xbox One eventually. That's what I did. Tons of quality 360 games to play on there too.

Lifetime Sales Predictions

Switch: 161 million (was 73 million, then 96 million, then 113 million, then 125 million, then 144 million, then 151 million, then 156 million)

PS5: 122 million (was 105 million, then 115 million) Xbox Series X/S: 38 million (was 60 million, then 67 million, then 57 million. then 48 million. then 40 million)

Switch 2: 120 million (was 116 million)

PS4: 120 mil (was 100 then 130 million, then 122 million) Xbox One: 51 mil (was 50 then 55 mil)

3DS: 75.5 mil (was 73, then 77 million)

Oh yeah, Ace Combat 6 is a great reminder, thanks.

So the achievements won't sync to the account?

I'm looking into the One X, some used get priced quite decently with some luck, but the Series X would make it quire redundant, right? With a Series X and a 360 most games from the 4 gens would be convered, even as only Forza 8 would be unplayable going with the One instead.

Depends how into the Xbox ecosystem you end up. Yes, Series X is the most powerful Xbox to date and has 2 generations of games plus the same backwards compatibility of Xbox One.

But Series X is crazy overpriced now in most regions and harder to find. And having a PS5 makes one very redundant for a lot of games.

See how you enjoy the Xbox 360 and see after if a One S or One X is worth it (maybe a "VCR" One if you get it dirt cheap in good condition). Series seems like a tough sell at this point even for Series S.

And the achievements might have trouble syncing to your account if you can't connect online. Every one of my achievements on Xbox 360 (both natively on the console and 360 games on Xbox One) have synced to my Xbox account. However, 2-step verification and errors from the old 360 infrastructure make connecting to online a pain for myself and many players. The last time I booted up my 360 in late 2025, it refused to connect to Xbox Live. And that's at least the second time, if not the third.

As for some games you can't play on later Xbox consoles

-SoulCalibur IV and V

-Project Gotham Racing 3 and 4

About half of the original Xbox games are playable on Xbox 360. But by comparison only about 6% of original Xbox games are playable on Xbox One.

Xbox 360 will still connect online.
But the online marketplace got nuked and no longer functions... Making a new account can be difficult due to 2-factor authentication issues though.

Some notable games to get:

* Blue Dragon.
* Fable 2.
* Fable Anniversary (Unless you get the Lost Chapters on OG Xbox)
* Mass Effect Trilogy.
* Naruto: Rise of a Ninja and The Broken Bond.
* Infinite Undiscovery.
* Kameo.
* Banjo Kazooi Nuts and Bolts.

OG Xbox:
* Morrowind.
* Crimson Skies.
* Fable TLC.
* Jade Empire.
* Ninja Gaidan

Halo, Gears and Forza are the other obvious answers as well.

Yeah, even used shaddy Series X here are usually more expensive than a brand new PS5 during promotions.

The Series X is not officially sold or produced here since 2023.

The thing is, by owning a 360 the One becomes redundant if I ever get a Series tho, as I can run OG and 360 on the 360, and One and Series on Series.

Oh yeah, there was an exclusive Naruto game on the 360 I played on my friend, but I think it was mostly an online game, unlike the Ninja Storm series on PS3.

Morrowind would be a nice pick from the OG, currently I only got Forza 1 but will get Halo 1 and 2 if I ever find it at a reasonable price here. OG Xbox games here are far more expensive than there in the USA, it was basically non existent around here, and it was prime PS2 piracy era, even PS2 games are more pricey here than in most places, tho nowdays there are decently possible to find (the price being the problem most times).

Banjo or maybe Rare Replay is on my radar, but I hope Rare Replay eventually comes for the PS5 instead, so no rush there.

Thank you for the lists.

Naruto: Rise of the Ninja and The Broken Bond are games with a single player story component which aligns with the Anime... And are extremely fun games to play, which are not available on any other console as the franchise rights got transferred to another company.

Rare Replay is for Xbox One/Xbox Series.
