Forums - Sales - FF7 Remake apparently off to a strong start on Switch 2

Crisis Core Reunion released on all platforms simultaneously. The Switch version sold terribly, even losing to Xbox in some regions iirc.

Compared to that, this game opened well considering it's a late port on a small install base. But as always, I wish we knew how much of these initial sales were from hardcore fans double-dipping. Cheap launch price, portability, and being a very late port encourage double-dipping.

As for how much it sold... I would guess it was at around 9 million before the Swirch 2 and Xbox release when the Twin Pack is accounted for. This was actually how I got Remake; I orignally intended to buy all three games when the 3rd one is out, but the Twin Pack deal changed my mind. I wonder if there will be a Triple Pack preorder with all three games included for the price of one.

The first game did good anyway even if it will bring only 500k. The game that need help seems to be Rebirth.

Yep, exactly. I hope SE have it ready for September. I don't expect much simply for the same reasons Rebirth underperformed on Playstation, but the sooner they can get it onto Xbox/Switch2, the more likely fans of part 1 are to follow up on their purchase.

Then finally the trilogy should be able to wrap up fall 2027

Yes. Square never gave any numbers for Rebirth. I think many people were a little disappointed by part. 1 so they didn't take part. 2

They really should have done a remake in one game.

Yeah I don't remember seeing any actual numbers for Rebirth, though it was reported shortly after launch that it was selling about half as well as Remake:

Is there anyone who has looked into the sales figures? Looking into some of the articles it seems that FF7 Remake could be a lot closer to 10 mil than we think:

https://www.eurogamer.net/final-fantasy-7-remake-3-will-not-compromise-on-graphics-whatsoever-despite-move-to-multiplatform-release

They mention that Final Fantasy 7 Remake: 8.7 mil copies as of March 14th 2025:

Do we have any theories on what the Switch 2 and Xbox versions have sold. It could be a 10 mil seller because that 8.7 mil sales figure was from about a year ago.

Agreed.  It is hard to stay excited for a single story that takes 10+ years to complete.  Not too mention both Remake and Rebirth have a whole bunch of fluff that can be cut.

Oh nice find.

Imagining Japan is 50% digital (generous), its done 60k in that market.

It quickly fell off UK retail charts so I think it probably did <30k. No word yet on US, but I think 300k in the most I'd estimate its S2 sales to be at by now. No idea with Xbox since it's digital only. Probably very low based off FF16 sales on the platform

So we are looking potentially at 9+ million now. Sqaure Enix release their offical report in May, so if it manages the magic 10 mil we will find out by May.

FF7 Rebirth releases in June (NSW2) a few days before Summer Games Fest where I imagine there will be a huge Square Enix blowout, so if the sales are good they will make some sort of announcement at the event before they reveal part 3.

Director Naoki Hamaguchi says the game has shown "strong performance" on Switch 2 and that sales are "satisfying on a worldwide level"

https://www.gonintendo.com/contents/58160-square-enix-says-final-fantasy-vii-remake-intergrade-has-had-a-strong-sales

"Sales figures came through strongly, and the fans are happy, so it feels like this multiplatform approach itself has led to positive results"

I love square concluding what everyone knew for a decade+, lol. Of course being multiplatform means more sales.
