People keep asking for a new Sonic Frontiers but Sega doesn't really do direct sequels that much for Sonic recently, no matter the amount of fan requests. Why do you think we haven't gotten a Sonic Adventure 3 or a Sonic Mania 2?

We did get a Sonic Adventure 3, we just call it Sonic 06. And Mania 2 without the original creators would have been asking for trouble.

If Sega truly never iterated on Sonic game formulas, we'd never have gotten 4 and a half boost games.

Frontiers 2 is possible, but not the most probable. I guarantee something in terms of a Sonic platformer will be revealed this year as it is the 35th Anniversary. We could get a platformer for the holiday season. It's been over a year since Shadow Generations which was one release with a remaster of Sonic Generations. But also keep in mind that there was 5 years between Sonic Forces and Sonic Frontiers. That is the biggest gap to date in the main series. The next main Sonic game could wait until 2027 or 2028. We'll have to see.

Lifetime Sales Predictions

Switch: 161 million (was 73 million, then 96 million, then 113 million, then 125 million, then 144 million, then 151 million, then 156 million)

PS5: 122 million (was 105 million, then 115 million) Xbox Series X/S: 38 million (was 60 million, then 67 million, then 57 million. then 48 million. then 40 million)

Switch 2: 120 million (was 116 million)

PS4: 120 mil (was 100 then 130 million, then 122 million) Xbox One: 51 mil (was 50 then 55 mil)

3DS: 75.5 mil (was 73, then 77 million)

IMO I believe Sega has finally learned their lesson on not rushing out a game to meet some arbitrary deadline e.g. "Sonic's 15th Anniversary." This was even seen with the release of Sonic Frontiers, which was originally slated for Holiday 2021 but was granted an extra year b/c the lead produced begged on his hands and knees for an extension.

My prediction: Sonic Unleashed Remastered this year, Sonic Frontiers 2 revealed and given a 2027 release window (though most likely won't release until Holiday 2027). After all, this would tie the Sonic 4 Movie together very well with the Sonic Frontiers 2 release.

In Sega's latest fiscal report, Sonic Racing CrossWorld reportedly "failed to meet [sales] expectations."

Between hefty price cuts, strong word-of-mouth, high critical praise, and a Nintendo Switch 2 edition giving a second gust of sales, this figure does shock me a little bit... though at the same time, Sonic was competing with MarioKart World and Kirby Air Riders. And there was no Sonic movie to bolster sales, unlike for Sonic X Shadow Generations in 2024. Goes to show how much of a funhouse mirror social media truly is: based off engagement on X alone, you would think this game had sent Sonic into the stratosphere; in reality, however, while commercially successful as a Sonic spinoff, there was never a reality where this game was ever going to compete with the likes of Kirby nor Mario.

Hmm… not sure I’m convinced. But it is Nate… we’ll see how things go.

Hmm… Sonic definitely is getting a new release this Fall, it always does. But a new mainline entry? Hard to say, though this certainly points towards this perhaps being the case. Four “major new titles” in “mainstay” franchises— Sonic and/or Persona. Please!

Next 3D sonic will definitely be announced this year, even if it doesn't quite make it for release.

I just played sonic colors for the first time. Finished it on Switch, very short but decent game. I also picked up Sonic Racing Crossworlds (physical sw1 and sw2 upgrade pack). I think it's very good, just miss the mission based campaign from the other sonic racing games.

Ah… so there’s a new classic collection releasing this year. Should’ve seen that one coming lol.

Origins already has those ports included. They're probably just trying to cut down on the number of versions of the same game to support.

Perhaps unpopular opinion, but Sega leans on Sonic too much. I would love to see them dip into Phantasy Star, Shining Force, Skies of Arcadia, Jet Set, etc. Feels like there is some great games that just don't get enough love.
