This is definitely near the top of the list of games I wanna play since as someone who really likes turn based RPGs, especially ones with combat more complex that just selecting things in a menu I'm sure I'll love it. I had a blast with the Mario RPGs back in the day a big reason being the combat so it seems right up my alley. Also I have never seen such an absurd reaction to a game dominating awards as Clair Obscur got. There's always dumb nonsense but it was turned up to 11 this time with people calling the game "Israeli coded" and shit like that when most of them would probably like the game if they gave it a try.

FWIW I would 100% consider Expedition 33 as sitting among the likes of GoW’18 and TLoU:Pt1. Would I say ER, BotW, TotK, or BG3? No. But still very deserving of all its recognition.

Sure, it's very subjective. I would consider it above ER and BG3, but not BotW, TotK or GoW 2018. I think it's worthy of being in that conversation, but not a personal top 20 game for me despite being a big fan of the genre.

Well, it appears Clair Obscur has done the unthinkable— sitting at 436 awards, COE33 is now the winningest game of GotY of all time. Congrats to Sandfall Interactive!

Say what you will about whether a game of a magnitude akin to Elden Ring or Breath of the Wild being more deserving of such a title, I think we should focus on celebrating this achievement. In no year would such a feat be easy, especially not in the year of Silksong, Mario Odyssey team’s follow up to Odyssey, Ghost of Yotēi, etc.

Not sure about Baldur's Gate, but especially the Elden Ring year was pretty dry. 2025 saw the release of genuinely good games like Donkey Kong, Ghost of Yotei, Death Stranding 2, Hades 2, Silksong, Metroid Prime, Kingdom Come 2. So I think I disagree here.
