Because the ps5/series x launched? Creating the new genn.

Or is nintendo the only one who says when the next genn is upon us?

Let me help you, you seem confused:

3th gen: NES (1983)

4th gen: Mega Drive (1988)

5th gen: 3DO (1993)

6th gen: Dreamcast (1998)

7th gen: Xbox 360 (2005)

8th gen: Wii U (2012)

See? Nobody can or want to make that claim. It is really baffling how you got to that non sensical conclusion from your exchanges in this thread.

You are the one that is basically saying that Nintendo can't start a generation for no good reason

Okej, why did the x360 start the new genn? Why did the wiiu start the new gen?

So with that logic in 2 or 3 years ps6 starts genn 11.

Nintendo can start a generation, the question is why did switch start 9th gen? What makes it a 9th gen console? Just because its the next nintendo system? I think there needs to be a better explanation than that. Its in an ambiguous spot when looking at timing, so you have to look at other factors in order to classify it.

Meanwhile Steam has 220,000,000 monthly users and continues to grow.

The problem is steam has never even come close to winning a championship though.

Why?  It has by far and away the most active users.  And it has the biggest/stronger library in gaming history.

Bear in mind that 220,000,000 is active users..  Steam has as many active users as ps5+switch combined..  and that doesn't include Epic which has 74,000,000 active users.  PC is killing consoles in active users.

How many units has steam sold? Vgc isnt keeping track of it. I bet you its not even ten million

How many units of software?  Likely over a 1,000,000,000 thus far and growing.

It is really not that hard. In 2 or 3 years Switch 2 will continue strong being supported for many years alongside PS6, if Switch 1 lifespan is any hint.

How you can say that Switch 1 is late 8th gen? PS4 and XBox1 were declining in their way to being replaced when it released and remained strong for many years after their replacement. That is not a late gen system behavior, see Atari 5200 for example.

Btw, Can you list a generation that lasted only 2 or 3 years?

They launched a year before the others and were the direct successors to their previous console. It's pretty obvious. Are you still stuck in Sony 2006 propaganda when they said next gen doesn't start until we say so or something?
