Yeah I have a feeling the recent discourse around PlayStation has effected that score lol. I can understand a fall in quality from SM2 but going from 90 to 78?

This is backlash from reviewers, whether consciously or not.

Kind of crazy that Spider-Man 2 got 90. Probably one of the most disappointing games of the gen, up there with metroid prime.

I'm not too surprised this is reviewing pretty low. It has never looked particularly good to me.

I was initially disappointed with Spider-Man 2, but I am replaying it and having a pretty good time. I think the problem is it just really didn't do anything better than the first, or add anything really significant. The changes they made were at best neutratl to the gameplay experience and at worst actively detracted (why am I parrying with Spider-man?).

All that said, the core gameplay still holds up really well, and there is a good story even if not as good as the first. If you're a Spider-man fan like me, getting to play through a Spider-man adventure is still pretty cool. Judged on its own merits I think 90 is a little on the high end, but not crazy unreasonable.

I'm surprised; I expected more from Insomniac. A very weak review score, it will seriously impact sales. I, for one, won't be buying it.

Based on the insomniac leaks, I wonder if this will put an end to plans for an X-Men game. Perhaps for good?

Insomniacs can now focus on Spiderman, Ratchet & Clank and, luckly, a New Playstation IP.

Based on the reviews I think the problem was... well, it's a Wolverine game.

From the moment I saw it I was a bit hesitant, because Wolverine just doesn't have a really fun set of powers to play around with. He can heal, which isn't all that interesting, he can smell and hear real good, and he has claws. Only one of those things is really fun to play around with. He doesn't have any interesting ways to move around and he doesn't have any ranged tools to play around with. And unlike other beat em up/hack and slash, they can't really even add in other weapons to spice things up. If you're playing Wolverine, I'm guessing you're using the claws 95% of the time.

I think Wolverine just isn't suited for a AAA style game. Can't really see playing as him being fun for more than 5 hours or so. That being said around 80 isn't terrible.

If they were going to do an Xmen game, that could potentially be a lot better. Just a lot more fun things you can do with all those characters.

"If they were going to do an Xmen game, that could potentially be a lot better..."

It's possible, but imho... Maybe insomniac should stop dealing with Marvel IPs and create something new.

They should keep Spider-Man ( and perhaps Venom ), it's selling amazingly well. Make a Ratchet & Clank here and there, and... Make a new shining IP to keep things interesting! Ideally something that will start small and can grown with time! Maybe a very fast Sidescroller, a platformer or even a turn base tactical game...something different from most other Sony games.

That said... A turn base tactical game using a combination of the X-Men powers looks like a perfect game!

Not gonna happen when they have some marvel ip exclusivity rights for another decade. That's not something they'll just throw away. They have X-Men characters locked till the end of 2035.

Venom, Spiderman 3 and X-Men are all on the way.

Insomniac has those rights or Sony?

They need to pay for such rights. Wolverine is looking like a big dud set to fail, they are going to lose money with this one.

Maybe, a big maybe, they should just give up on X-Men and focus on Spiderman.

They should make "Spider-Man & Venom: Maximum Carnage" and give spider a time to rest, at least 5 years. Them new IP and Ratchet & Clank, smaller projects, the "big gun is Spider", the other games are the "jabs" testing new games and concepts.

Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter is the year's highest scored game on OC with over 7 reviews! Playing it on Nightmare and I'm starting to struggle in the middle of chapter 2.

Control Resonant scored 84 based on 63 reviews so far, which is slightly lower than my initial expectations but definitely higher than how I think it looks now. It's fugly!!! Weird character proportions, camera, and action. Some terrible animations, bland environments, meh graphics. Why on earth is it so demanding?!
