Forums - Nintendo - Switch 2 Owners: What Changes Would You Make to the Console?

Being a switch 2 owner. I would have loved a 1tb hard drive. Have the catridge as the micro SD to make it cheaper. Also allow the. Catridge to be installed into the console. This eliminates the reliance on game key cards. Have support to external HDD and SSD via the dock. Much bigger battery to allow for bigger battery life. Better screen against sunlight. Current one is an improvement but they can do better. Better CPU and a more ram..

- Game Install Cards instead of GKC
- all Switch 1 games forced to their docked mode when Switch 2 is in handheld mode
- at least Hall effect sticks
- better battery
- dock fans in the bottom, so that it can run at higher clocks when docked

The ability to turn off the system via the UI itself like you can do on Playstation...Xbox...and pretty much every other device ever.

Could you clarify what you mean by this? Doesn’t NS2 already have this feature? Either press the Home button put the system to sleep, or hold down the Home button and press the sleep option there.

D-pad only joycons for fighting games on the go.

They mean actually turning it off, not putting it in sleep mode.

I think the SW2 tablet/joycon look and feel quite premium vs the og Switch and I'm quite pleased with the evolution in that respect.  The dock however, doesn't match up at all and though perhaps isn't what really matters, is where most of my gripe lands.  In no particular order...

- The back plate itself and the way it connects is just super cheap.  I much prefer the thicker hinged option of the og.

- The tablet doesn't fit snug in the dock and it flops back and forth, even just trying to swap a game cartridge.  It's annoying to me, and can't be great for the usb-c port long term, right?

- The cable management/routing could have been done more thoughtfully, to more easily face the dock in a preferred direction.  As it is, it more or less forces the cables out the left side which limits the direction it faces to keep a clean appearance.

- Yeah, it gained the ethernet port but lost the 3rd internal usb. (which I really liked having for hooking up/charging extra devices)

- Finally, and maybe it's a silly thing, but the logo could have been backlit with an led (toggled on or off through the ui) when unit is in the dock (think Wii "connect 24" pulsing blue disc drive).  Just a nice little touch, so the dock wasn't such a plain chunk of plastic.

While I really appreciate the simple/no nonsense ui and navigation of the Switch and SW2, I think bringing something akin to WiiU's "Miiverse" back would be really cool.  Also, because of its portable nature, 3DS's "StreetPass" not being re-imagined for SW2 is a big missed opportunity, imo.

The form factor dictates the use of cartridges and limited internal storage, but I feel like Nintendo could have done a better job with their implementation of the cartridges.  They are expensive and yet have technical limitations.  Coupled with their one size (that doesn't fit all) cartridge option, have made alternatives like Game Key Cards attractive to many publishers.  Nintendo has had enough time and experience in this arena that they could/should have had a better solution implemented for this console.

My last thought for improvement is kind of a selfish thing because of the additional cost.  Despite the obvious amazing sales, not everyone is in a position to buy a SW2, even at its current price, but I would have been very willing to spend $50-75. higher if it meant a bit more future proofing.  ie. a bit more ram or slightly better cpu.  I play docked so this isn't an issue for me, but for those that do play handheld..a few extra bucks spent on the screen would have made those people more pleased.

Definitely a Dual screen functionality. Wii U experience in Docked mode and DS experience in Handheld mode

I think the most involved version of that is waiting for the Switch 2's successor. If it is a Switch 3, you can have a foldable tablet if the tech is a lot cheaper in 7 or so years especially when there is no bezel in between the screens (aka a hinge in the case of something that folds).

Lifetime Sales Predictions

Switch: 161 million (was 73 million, then 96 million, then 113 million, then 125 million, then 144 million, then 151 million, then 156 million)

PS5: 122 million (was 105 million, then 115 million) Xbox Series X/S: 38 million (was 60 million, then 67 million, then 57 million. then 48 million. then 40 million)

Switch 2: 120 million (was 116 million)

PS4: 120 mil (was 100 then 130 million, then 122 million) Xbox One: 51 mil (was 50 then 55 mil)

3DS: 75.5 mil (was 73, then 77 million)

It took me a minute to come up with what you guys meant by Game install cards vs Game Key Cards.

Are you guys talking a higher storage capacity cart just with cheaper memory that is insufficient speed to run the game but is good enough to install it to internal?

Also if I am not mistaken there is 8GB and 64GB carts. The 8 is cheaper and why it is used for the key cards. So they have multiple sizes, just not enough. I would like to see an 8, 16, 64, 128, and 256 GB carts. Maybe a 1 GB cart for game key cards so that smaller publishers can still have a physical presence at the cheapest price.

I would first like to see the sleep mode issue resolved. My console won't turn on after being in sleep mode for a certain amount of time, so I have to either hold the power button for 30 seconds to soft reset it, which finally gets it to work, or just completely turn it off. I check to see if the issue is fixed after a new firmware update, but still nope.

Outside of that, most of the things I wanna see changed could've been changed this entire time considering the device is as iterative of the Switch 1 as can be. And that's giving more personality to the system itself. Themes, different music for each of the different systems and menus, making the device feel more alive in a way. The Wii U has had the best experience in this regard. I loved playing the games, but I even enjoyed not playing the games because of how much personality the Wii U was given. As well as different layout for the games installed on the system. Just keeping (like 20) games shown on the main screen that you have to slide all the way over to just see the games has never been a good system.

Also, return of Virtual Console and additional Game Card storage options so publishers don't overwhelmingly resort to Key Cards.

I'm with @Vodacixi I think you may need to use your warranty. What you are describing is not how mine works.  It can be asleep for a week on the dock and i just have to give the power button on the console a quick press to wake it back up.  I do not have to do what you are describing.
