Forums - Movies & TV - The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, in cinemas 1st of April

Well, the movie is off to a record-breaking start ($190m domestic and $310 mil worldwide over the 5-day weekend) and we’re not done being spoiled with good news:

Danny DeVito voicing Wario in the sequel? Sign me the hell up! I definitely see the voice similarities.

He did say he’d be down to voicing the character in an upcoming TSMBM sequel if the price was right and he has a working relationship with Charlie Day, Luigi’s voice actor. Plus the second post-credits scene kinda lays the groundwork with

Spoiler!
Princess Daisy

so it tracks.

Oh, and I had a good enough time with Galaxy, but yeah, the movie was never gonna win over critics. DreamWorks probably would’ve been a better choice over Illumination for these movies.

I actually liked it better than the first one because Mario and Luigi are together for most of the movie, and there's surprising character development.

Spoiler!
Always bugged me that Peach and Rosalina looked so much alike. This movie fixed that problem for me

So, is this movie considered canon, I wonder?

Also, my daughter said it was her favourite movie.  Take that, critics.

never trusting movie critics again

don't mind my username, that was more than 10 years ago, I'm a different person now, amazing how people change ^_^

Critics are pretty much useless when it comes to movies aimed at kids.

Agreed.  Years ago I took my kids to the My Pony movie critics tore to ****.  And it was perfect for said audience.

Also feels like those critics know nothing about Mario and Nintendo.  The Rob part was funny as crap.  But that probably went right over their head.

It wasn't a movie for them, it was for people like us who grew up with these characters.

I also feel like nuance is completely lost these days and is being replaced by hyperbole.  There were reviews that were unironically claiming that this movie was the end of cinema.  There's not liking the movie for legitimate reasons, and there's shit like that where the reviewer is just farming for reactions and clicks and should be ignored going forward.

It was apparently actually intended to be in the games too, but Nintendo didn't get to include it for various reasons. So it might be that Nintendo used the movie to make it official.

I found the movie pretty enjoyable. It's not high art, but a perfectly serviceable popcorn movie. My only regret is that the Koopalings didn't appear in the movie, I would have loved to see them supporting Bowser junior, and Kamek is really just making a fool of himself, here I expected more from his part.

I want the Koopalings just for the announcements of who will be voicing them. lol

Would be like Beyonce is Wendy. Al Pacino is Morton etc... Something crazy like that.
