Movie Rosaline be looking fantastic

Movie Rosalina is giving me a lot of Elsa from Frozen vibes, and that is a wonderful thing.

Yeah I rarely see movies on the big screen any more unless they look like something special; I think my last one was Alien Romulus in August last year.

I'll definitely be checking this one out at the cinema though. (And Avatar 3 next month)

Off the top of my head, the only movie I've been to the theaters to see this year was Superman.

My movie theatre trips have certainly become significantly less frequent since COVID (really since Endgame.)

That said, 2026 is looking like it'll be a bounce back year in the theatres.

This movie plus the Michael Jackson are two films I plan to see opening weekend, if not opening night. Same with Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Maybe Supergirl, if I hear enough good things about it. Also that Avatar Aang movie if it doesn't get delayed. And if I REALLY get that MCU furnace reignited - Avengers: Doomsday.

Really great trailer! I'm super excited for the Galaxy movie! I love the Rosalina's story book reference. My two small gripes are Bowser Jr.'s voice sounding overly manly and the Odyssey and Wonder references in a Galaxy movie being a bit too much. But I suppose those references give more context to the world if we do get future Odyssey and Wonder movies.

Looks good!

Good pick for Rosalina too.

Now I can picture Idina Menzel as Rosalina. But I'd rather save her for a future Mario movie or show as Pauline. To hear an original song and Jump Up Superstar from Idina Menzel would be amazing.

Edit: I just realized Pauline makes a cameo and speaks in the first movie. I still stand by what I said, at least for a singing voice.

I still find it weird that they pretty much skipped 20+ years of games to go straight into Mario Galaxy. It is a critical darling for sure, but Mario Bros 3 and Mario World are primed for good stories. I dare say, maybe more than Galaxy. I guess Galaxy has that WOW factor that those stories do not have.

Anyway, it appears to be a celebration of 3D Mario games, much like the last one was a celebration of the 2D Mario games. It should at least be a decent watch. The first one had no right to be actually fun to watch. (I think the same as the Sonic movies.)

To be fair, the Super Mario Bros Movie has elements from over 20 years of gaming. Keep in mind Cat Mario came only after Galaxy, for instance. The Mario Kart sequence is mostly Wii and 8 inspired, with a hint of Double Dash. Even some of Mario's fighting moves come from later Smash entries.

The way SMB3 and SMW are structured would lend more to a series than a movie imo. SMB2, SML, SML2 and Yoshi's Island on the other hand would certainly make for an interesting movie. Yoshi's island would also make for a nice series with a different Yoshi per episode trying to save baby Mario each episode.

The 2023 film really caught me off guard, I kinda expected it to be bad, but it was a really fun movie that overflowed with love and reverence for the source material.

Galaxy 1 and 2 are two of my favourite games of all time so I'm keen to see how the sequel pays tribute to their brilliance.

The box office will be interesting to watch too, as the first film was a smash hit.

If all goes well and as expected for the 2nd film, I see no reason why it won't surpass the first film in the box office. This could be $1.5-1.7 billion - passing Frozen II and maybe even Inside Out 2.

$850 million worldwide on the pessimistic side. $1 billion is more or less a lock because the first film made $1.361 billion.

Outgrossing the first film is possible, but I don't see it as the most likely outcome. Sequels can make more, but they can also make a little less to a lot less.

A third film is likely already at least in the concept stage given the crazy amount of money the first film made.
