That controller looks hideous lol
VR headset looks OK, but the console with an AMD GPU and that controller

Any reason why it uses arm over x86 unlike the steam deck? I always thought that for handhelds arm was better and for desktops and things that have a constant supply of electricity x86 was better? But with steam it's reversed? I'm not in it or anything so I wouldn't know.

24GB total memory, a separate CPU/GPU instead of an APU and not locked to one store/OS and Digital Foundry throw the $399 figure out there as if that should be the target.
Don't know what they're smoking. Surely this thing will cost more to produce than the PS5.

Steam Machine is X86, Steam Frame is ARM. It will be for power efficiency in the VR headset.

Yeah Dave2D said Valve engineers told him that they're not targeting console pricing, but rather small form factor PCs and be competitive in that market. So he's figuring the $700-$800 range.

Steam machines coming back in 2026 was really not something I was expecting to read.
Edit: after looking a bit more on it, unless it's really cheap I just don't see why anyone would want it over building/buying a normal PC instead... aside from the novel of it.
To me it feels like the Steamdeck has far more purpose then this, and it feels like it's the low end version of that Microsoft is planning to do for their next hardware.
I can't see it being a sales success, which also means pricing will quickly shift up for proper profit if they are planning to take a hit on it for a year or so.
Last edited by BraLoD - on 12 November 2025Interesting stuff; I do wonder just how wide its appeal will be, given that PC gamers will probably prefer a proper desktop and the home console crowd is pretty entrenched on their platform of choice, but maybe they're only looking to carve out a small niche like with Steam Deck.
Curious to see how it sells.
I do hope they get the price right, especially as ram prices are going up. If they market this as a console alternative, it might be a hard sell unless it's at $400-$500 but even then it may have issues against the ps5/seriesX. But as an affordable PC, I think $600 USD is the highest they can price this as the lowest 5060 desktop I found is $749 and the 5060 desktop will likely be a lot more powerful than the steam machine with it's laptop gpu.

According to techpowerup, this is the relative performance of a 7600M

So basically, it's slower than a desktop 5050 which also has 8GB of memory... Pending performance reviews of course.
Imo:
$400 = Fuck yes pricing
$500 = Great pricing
$600 = Decent pricing
