Forums - Nintendo - Poke'mon Pokopia Will Be Game-Key-Card Only

This just feels like a low budget spin off that would’ve been digital only for 20 on previous Nintendo consoles. I feel like they just slapped it on an GCK late in development to justify selling it as a full priced retail game.

It's inevitable. There is no future for cartridges and the AI spending boom is likely driving the cost of these kinds of storage (cartridge based) through the roof. They cost $16/cartridge just for 64GB, wouldn't be surprised if that price is actually going up even for Nintendo because the price of most high speed storage these days is increasing (again AI spend is driving prices of RAM, storage, etc. up).

Nintendo should have just ripped the band-aid off and just made Switch 2 a digital only platform like every other portable electronic device is these days (and the Portable PS6 will be also) but they wanted a weird compromise and it just ends up with no one being happy.

I play games, not formats, so for me personally I've never  been attached to cartridges. As far as I'm concerned they've been a curse on Nintendo anyway, they cost Nintendo the entire traditional console market because of the stupid N64 cartridges which were terrible and crippled the system while simultaneously handing the market to Sony. I wish we had digital only back in the mid-90s with high speed internet, it would have allowed games like Metal Gear Solid and Final Fantasy to be possible on the N64 without needing something stupid like a $150 cartridge.

Options are good. Having no physical option for Switch 2 games would have been a disaster much worse than GKC and expensive cartridges (which players can choose to avoid in favor of digital if they so wish). Nintendo's playerbase remain heavily physical biased, and you don't want to piss them off by deleting physical entirely lol.

The PS6 handheld being digital only will be a deal breaker to millions of potential buyers, but there's nothing Sony can do about it, because they're stuck with big ass Bluray discs as their only right option. Not a big deal though, PS6 home consoles will be more popular. The handheld is pretty much a bonus, and a smart way to naturally accelerate digital adaption without enraging their playerbase.

It's good to see.

I already was not planing to get it when I get a Switch 2 and they just sealed the deal, one less game to think about.

If more and more games follow it makes it even easier to just skip the Switch 2 altogether as well.

Soundwave, sweetheart. Can you stop making the same almost copy-paste comment on every negative news on GKC? It's getting very old. Specially because people have already debunked your entire rethoric multiple times. Thanks.

Aw man, that’s really too bad. I like the look of this game. It appears to sit somewhere at the intersection of Dragon Quest Builders, Minecraft, and Animal Crossing.

I suppose I’m stuck playing it digitally. Which means I’ll most likely wait for a sale.

I’m guessing the GKC thing is a product of the Pokémon Company being involved. But if Nintendo starts using GKCs for its homegrown games, it’s gonna be a long generation.

Every news I get from the Switch 2 makes me glad I haven't bought one.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

Yet another example of why Nintendo should just make multiple file sizes available for Switch 2 Game Cards. 64 GB is locking out a lot of games from a logistical standpoint.

Nintendo should make a digital only NS2, test the market

What are they doing!!! GKC will be the reason Switch 2 will sell horrible and it will not pass Switch 1 or PS2 because of it =o Drama!

As I said many times, they've botched it completely with GKC and should've gone with GIC (Game Install Card) with performance similar to BluRay Disks.

I originally proposed U3 SD Cards, and these days they go for less than $2 for 64GB, $4 for 128GB (and those prices are for small quantities, imagine in quantities that game are shipped at), but U1 is already sufficient (and faster than BR Disk) and they are even cheaper.
